86 NIGER TANKER EXPLOSION VICTIMS BURIED
A tragic fuel tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State has claimed the lives of 86 people, as confirmed by the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
NSEMA’s Director General, Abdullahi Baba Arah, disclosed on Sunday that 80 victims were interred in a mass grave at the Dikko Primary Health Care premises, while five bodies were released to families for private burials.
One additional victim succumbed to injuries at the healthcare facility.
The explosion occurred when a fuel tanker, traveling from Kaduna to Gwagwalada overturned at the junction, spilling its contents.
Despite warnings to stay away, several residents gathered to scoop the leaking fuel.
Tragically, the tanker exploded, resulting in a massive loss of life, injuries to 55 individuals, and destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
The mass burial was conducted by NSEMA in collaboration with local government officials and volunteers, stretching from late evening into midnight.
Authorities have been working to provide medical care for the injured victims and assess the full extent of the damage.
The incident has raised concerns over public safety and awareness regarding the dangers of spilled fuel.
