An Ekiti State-based socio-political youth organization, Progressive Vanguard has cautioned the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the state against submission of a name as candidate for the Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 in the 2023 elections.
Members of the Vanguard gave the warning after a meeting held in Ado-Ekiti on the state of the state and the preparation for the governoship election in the state.
According to the publicity secretary of the group, Comrade Bunmi Awelewa, there had been rumours that the name of former chief of staff to governor, Biodun Omoleye would be submitted while the election was inconclusive.
Reports had it that the primary election held in Aramoko-Ekiti was going on peacefully until the agent of a contestant and former chief of staff to Governor Fayemi disrupted the exercise without any reason.
Awelewa therefore urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the state to ensure a re-run to determine the winner rather than sending a name when election was not concluded.
He emphasized that the party leaders should be conscious of the sensitivity of the period when the party is working towards the emergence of its candidate in the forthcoming governorship election, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
In his words,”we shall be going to the polls in the next few weeks and our leaders are creating confusion and division among leadership as well as the followership. Any person who wants the success of the party should never be involved in any step that can cost our candidate the expected victory”.
“We are emphasizing this, having observed the strategic positions occupied by the key players in the party and all hands are expected to be on the deck to achieve our target”, the publicity secretary added.
