Ondo State Deputy Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa has flagged off the Cash Grant for vulnerable groups and other social investment programmes carried out by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
Aiyedatiwa while representing the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON at the event said, the programmes would be painless as beneficiaries are brought into the formal financial system through the opening of bank accounts, mobile wallet and other formal and informal financial channels which would greatly helped them grow their businesses as the Country approached the cash withdrawal limit system by CBN .
The Deputy Governor said, “i am indeed delighted to perform the flag-off ceremony of cash grant for vulnerable groups and other social investments in Ondo State” .
“This is a welcome idea, especially as it provides an enabling platforms to empower our people to tackle poverty bedeviling the economy after a long period of COVID-19 pandemic” , he said.
Aiyedatiwa thanked the Federal Government on this strategic partnership with the State as he solicited for more social interventions that would better the lives of the people of sunshine state.
“While appreciating this laudable interventions, Ondo State Government is looking for more of social interventions for our people whose micro, small and medium enterprises were greatly affected by COVID-19 pandemic in the State” , he said.
At the event, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq who was represented by Otunba Mathew Dada said the programme was designed to specifically give a lifting hand to the poorest and vulnerables citizens in the country.
“This programme is being implemented in close partnership with State Governments” , she said.
“Our target in Ondo State is to distribute the grant to 2,866 beneficiaries across the 18 Local Government Areas in the State” .
“It is worthy to note that 70% of these beneficiaries must be women, while the remaining 30% is for youths” .
“Mr President has further directed that at least 15% of the total number of beneficiaries must specifically be allocated to citizens with special needs including Persons With Disability (PWDs) and Senior citizens in the State” , she explained.
The Special Adviser to Governor on Public and Integovernmental Relations, Dr (Mrs) Olubunmi Ademosu was delighted with these impactful interventions.
In her remarks, Dr. Mrs. Ademosu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON for ensuring the flagged off.
Speaking to the beneficiaries, Ademosu said, “you can start a life with this money, you can start small and make it big… Let’s join hands and make a difference in our State”.
