ODSG UPGRADES MOTHER AND CHILD HOSPITAL TO SPECIALIST HOSPITAL
Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN has commissioned the medical and surgical wards at the former Mother and Child Hospital now Ondo State Specialist Hospital and the Administrative block at the former Infectious and Disease Hospital now Ondo State Ministry of Health reference Hospital
Representing the Governor of Ondo State, the Commissioner for health, Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka disclosed this at the commissioning of the projects located in the two facilities
The governor while speaking at the state Specialist Hospital said the upgrading of the facilities was important to fill the gap left with the upgrading of the former State Hospital to University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital
He said the upgrading of the Mother and Child Hospital was to expand the range of services and provide quality healthcare beyond the maternal and child healthcare.
He appreciated the effort of the State Ministry of Health staff and SOML programme for supporting the project while saying the project has allayed the fears of the Akure Indigenes who felt they had lost their secondary healthcare facility.
The governor promised that the government would do more for the good people of the state by investing in the healthcare delivery to achieve health sector of their dream.
While at the Ondo State Reference Hospital the Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka noted that the expansion of the services of the facility to cover non- infectious diseases was for the benefit of the citizens in Akure and beyond especially the people living in Alagbaka, Igbatoro, Imafon, Oda road so that they have easy access to quality health services
He explained that the project would afford the entire people of the state access to prompt and immediate care to compliment the services of University of Medical Science University Teaching Hospital and the mother and child hospital now state specialist hospital Oke- Aro which he said was in line with with the Governor Akeredolu administration’s agenda to provide effective and efficient healthcare for the good people of the state
“The importance of access to healthcare cannot be overstated as good access is essential to providing high quality healthcare to the people and providers will be able to deliver care in time. This is genuinely a decision that will help the people of the state to access healthcare services promptly”
The commissioner emphasized that since the establishment of the facility, they have managed many cases of drug resistant tuberculosis, Covid 19, Lassa fever and monkey pox successfully and over 306 patients have been managed on emergency, outpatient and admission basis.
While noting that about 280 workers in the state have enrolled under the state insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS) in the facility.
Dr Ajaka implored the people living in the surrounding communities of the state to make adequate use of this hospital for their health benefits while calling for more enrollees under the Ondo State Contributory Health Scheme in this community to subscribe to the hospital.
The commissioner appreciated the Governor of the state for raising the bar of healthcare services through different innovations and interventions he has brought on board in the Health sector.
The special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Prof Dayo Faduyile noted that the upgrading of the Mother and Child Hospital and the Infectious and Disease Hospital was necessary to ensure that the people of the state to benefit maximally in the health programme of Mr Governor
According to the Head of Media and Publicity in the Ministry, He appreciated the effort of the Ministry of Health in ensuring that the hospitals were transformed to a specialist hospital
He congratulated the citizens of the State for having another specialist hospital after the upgrading of the former one to University of Medical Science Teaching Hospital while noting that it would take care of the health needs of the people.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharm ( Mrs) Folukemi Aladenola said the infrastructural development was important in extending the range of services of the hospital while appreciating Saving One Million Lives Project (SOML) and Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the state Ministry of Health for their cooperation and efforts from the commencement and completion of the projects
“We now have the medical and surgical wards, we have a place we can get our patients admitted and treated without any headache and that is what our Governor and the leadership of the Ministry of Health is committed to, we can’t but appreciate this administration for this”
She promised that the ministry would continue to work with the Hospital Management Board ( HMB) to advocate for further development of the specialist hospital to enable it deliver on its revised mandate and also solve personnel challenges in the health sector.
She urged the good people of the state to utilise the services available in the hospital while reminding that the facility is one of the centres providing services under the state Contributory Healthcare Scheme.
The Administrative Secretary, Dr Bobola Babatola emphasised that the upgrading to a full fledge hospital would help in healthcare delivery in the state.
The Chairman of Oke- Aro Landlord Association, Mr Philip Oyegoke appreciated the Governor of Ondo State and the Ministry of Health for expanding the scope of service of the hospital which he said would help access quality and affordable healthcare services promptly.
