COUNCIL OF ONDO NORTH YOUTH PRESIDENTS DISTANCES SELF AND YOUTHS FROM PROPOSED TOWN HALL MEETING BY SENATOR JIDE IPINSAGBA
The Council of Ondo North Youth Presidents has officially distanced herself, the component bodies and youths of Ondo North from the proposed Town Hall meeting organized by Senator Jide Ipinsagba, scheduled to be held on June 30 at the Adekunle Ajasin University Multipurpose Hall, Akungba Akoko.
According to a statement made public by the leaders of the council in the local government areas making up the district, there was no proper consultation among relevant stakeholders while the planned bursary awards by the senator was allegedly formulated.
“We would like to emphasize that the bursary programme planned by Senator Ipinsagba has been formulated without the consultation and inclusion of the youth presidents nor the student bodies in our respective local governments.”
The youths alleged that some of the youths empowerment and job opportunities are being hijacked by unknown youths from the Senatorial district.
“In a previous meeting, we collectively expressed our concerns and sent a letter to Senator Ipinsagba urging him to prioritize a meeting with us to address the various issues affecting the youths of each local government, challenges and possible solutions as a legislator in our Senatorial Zone as a whole”.
“However, we have yet to receive a response from the Senator regarding this matter.”
“Given these circumstances, it is our position that before any town hall meeting can be planned or initiated, it is imperative that the Senator grants us an audience to discuss and dialogue with him for development and growth of our people. We so much believe that a face-to-face discussion with the Senator is highly essential in order to establish a solid foundation for any future engagements, such as the proposed town hall meeting and intelligent ideas from our youths and foster relationship to bring the benefits of governance to Ondo North.”
“As local government youth presidents, we have the responsibility to mobilize our respective communities for such events, and it is important that we are properly informed and consulted.”
“Although, we acknowledge the importance of a town hall meeting to engage with the Senator and address important issues in which we earlier proposed through our Coordinator to the senator, we firmly assert that it must be preceded by a meeting between Senator Ipinsagba and ourselves as the intermediary between the youths and our leaders.”
“This will enable us to effectively articulate the concerns and aspirations of the youth population in our Senatorial Zone, giving sense of belonging and ensure optimal benefit and representation for all parties involved.”
“We respectfully request distinguish Senator Jide Ipinsagba to give due consideration to our plea for an audience, as it serves as a critical precursor to the planned town hall meeting. Our primary aim is to promote active youth participation, inclusivity, and constructive dialogue so that collectively, we can work towards the betterment or upliftment of our communities.”
“We therefore still urge Senator Ipinsagba to prioritize our request and initiate a meeting at the earliest convenience. We are confident that through open dialogue and collaboration, we can bring about a stronger sense of unity and effectively tackle the challenges facing our youths.”
“We will not hesitate to take other steps to get answers, if our prayers are not answered.”
