ONDO POLL: PDP CANDIDATE, AGBOOLA AJAYI PROMISES FREE EDUCATION TRASHES POWER OF INCUMBENCY TALK
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), in the scheduled Ondo state gubernatorial election, H.E . Agboola Ajayi, has announced his intention to declare free education in the state, if elected governor.
Ajayi, a former deputy governor, made the announcement in Abuja on Sunday, while interacting with newsmen.
While primary school pupils and secondary school students will not pay tuition or any other fee to get education, Ajayi said the fee being paid by students in the four tertiary institutions in the state, will be reduced drastically.
Registering his optimism of winning the November 16 election, Ajayi dismissed what many had expressed as the power of incumbency which normally play out at elections.
According to the former House of Representative member, incumbency can only work where the incumbent government is popular adding also that, sitting presidents and governors have been unsitted, insisting that, the case of Ondo won’t be different in the coming election.
Giving credence to his claim, Ajayi said “the ruling party in Ondo state is so unpopular that, members decamp to the PDP everyday and in large numbers too”
” Power of incumbency won’t work in our state. The election is going to be determined by the People.” Ajayi assured
“They have already identified their choice in Agbo and they are not pretending about it either. That’s why you see them decamp daily” He stressed
” The reason they are comfortable with me is because they are aware of my record of service. They are testimonies to what I have done in the past in terms of delivering dividends of democracy, they know I won’t be a trial and error governor.” Ajayi said
” As God would have it, we have a President in Asiwaju, who is a lover of democracy and wants democracy to be sustained. He is a father to all of us. He knows me personally and recognises the robustness of my political profile. He won’t encourage any foul play in the election and I can I assure you that INEC will handle issues well”.
