FLOOD DESTROYS PROPERTY WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA, SCORES RENDERED HOMELESS IN ONDO
Property worth millions of naira was destroyed by a flood on Friday after a downpour in the Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.
The downpour, which started at about 3 p.m., was reported to have wreaked havoc on some streets in the town, such as Ita-Nla Road, Oke-Odunwo, Odojomu, Oke-Idera, and Iluyemi, among others.
A source said that the Ita-Nla area of the town was the worst hit, adding that scores of vehicles, motorcycles, shops, and other valuables were submerged by the flood, but no lives were reportedly lost in the incident.
The source attributed the development to the blockage of drainage channels in the town, which prevented the free flow of water during the heavy rain.
He said, “The rain caused havoc in the community; many properties were submerged. Almost all the roads in town were submerged, and there is no major road to pass. There is a need for the government to intervene in this matter.
“The residents, especially the shop owners, were badly affected because they lost their goods to the flood. But we thank God that nobody was swept away or died.”
