APC NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL ACCUSES AKUME OF ROMANCING WITH SDP AHEAD OF 2027
The All Progressive Congress National Youth Council, APC-NYC, has unveiled plans by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume to sponsor the Social Democratic Party, SDP in order to unseat the government of All Progressive Congress in 2027.
Akume’s anger towards President Bola Tinubu according to the group in a media note signed by Ambassador Muhammed Audu, Chairman of the APC National Youth Council was the nomination of Kassim Shettima as the running mate to the former Lagos State Governor in 2023.
The group said: “Akume who was against a Muslim-Muslim Ticket for both Tinubu and Shettima was also nursing to be vice president to Bola Tinubu as at the time the former Borno state governor was picked by the APC presidential candidate as his running mate.
“Not pleased with his position as SGF, Senator George Akume has now found a hope in his allies like Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who are planing to use the SDP to face President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“We can authoritatively report that Senator Akume as a result of his power tussle with the governor of his state, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has been sponsoring the stability of the Social Democratic Party in Benue state with a plan to use the Third Force to unseat the ruling party in 2027.
“To divert the public from his support to the SDP against President Bola Tinubu, Senator George Akume has now sponsored media attacks against Father Hyacinth Alia. Part of the media attacks was paying his media handlers to put the governor’s picture in an SDP poster which also has Alhaji Atiku, Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi and some others.
“They faked this poster so as to portray to the public that Governor Alia is planning to dump the APC for the SDP ahead of the 2027 general elections. Senator George Akume wants to use that fake poster to cause a crisis between President Bola Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia. Meanwhile, he is the one backing the stability of the SDP in Benue state and the North Central as a whole.
“We are also investigating a report that the SGF has released a substantial amount of money to the Benue State chapter of Social Democratic Party for logistics ahead the official decamping of some of his foot soldiers”
The APC National Youth Council also expressed its displeasure in the embattled Chief Judge of Benue state, Justice Maurice Ikpambese for backing illegality by using crooked means to shift the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal to Abuja despite a valid court order against it.
“Their plan is to give a kangaroo judgement in order to embarrass Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Benue State chapter of All Progressive Congress since they no longer control the structure of the party in the state.
“How can a whole Chief Judge surrender himself to be used as a destructive tool in the hands of politicians”
The group however called on President Bola Tinubu to raise a Probe Panel to look into the allegation that his SGF is sponsoring SDP through Atiku and El-Rufai to collapse the government of the APC.
