ONDO PARTNERS NIGER DELTA POWER HOLDING COMPANY TOWARDS BOOSTING POWER SUPPLY
In a significant step towards revamping the electricity sector of the state, delegates from Ondo State government led by the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, has held a high-level meeting today with the new management team of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), headed by its Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, to drive improvements in electricity access and support the broader goal of economic transformation and sustainable development in Ondo State.
According to the information officer in the ministry of energy and mineral resources, Debbie Funmilayo, the meeting which held in Abuja, focused on the commercialization of NDPHC’s distribution assets located in Ondo State and the aims of developing a mutually beneficial model that will strengthen electricity access, service delivery, and economic growth in the state.
The Commissioner, while commending the contributions of NDPHC to power infrastructure in the state, particularly in transmission and distribution support projects, noted that more can be done to open new market opportunities and enhance the quality of electricity infrastructure that will translate to an improved living standard for the citizenry.
He further maintained, that with the Open Access Regulations currently being put in place by Ondo State, the electricity market will be positioned for greater viability, improved service delivery, and increased private sector participation.
Engr. Alabi, congratulated the NDPHC management and wished them success in their tenure, while he assured them of Ondo State Government’s readiness to partner with NDPHC in newer power projects, particularly in the areas of power evacuation and infrastructure expansion.
The Managing Director/CEO NDPHC, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, in her remarks, posited that the meeting was timely and expressed readiness of the Company to partner with Ondo State government in developing a commercially viable model for actualizing a better partnership towards an improved power supply across the state.
Major highlights of the meeting were:
• The completion of the Owode Transmission Switching Station (TSS), which is strategic to stabilizing supply in parts of the state.
• The possibility of reactivating the existing Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between NDPHC and the Ondo State Power Company (OSPC) to enhance direct supply into the state’s network.
• The urgent need to curb vandalism and safeguard critical electricity infrastructure across the state.
• The establishment of joint technical teams to follow up on identified projects and ensure timely delivery.
Also present at the meeting were: Acting Managing Director of the Ondo State Power Company (OSPC), Engr. Olumayowa Ajumobi and the Director of Consumer Affairs of the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB), Engr. Oluwakemi Ogunrinde; while in the team of NDPHC were: Executive Director, (Corporate Services) Engr. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Executive Director (Network), Bello Babayo Bello, Technical Adviser to the MD/CEO, Engr. K. L. Panguru and the Technical Assistant to the MD/CEO, Dr. A. A. Suleiman.
