
IFEDORE TRADITIONAL RULERS ASSURE OF ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT IN FORTHCOMING CENSUS
…As Ondo NPC Federal Commissioner Kemi Iyantan engages stakeholders in council area
Traditional rulers in Ifedore local government area of Ondo State have expressed the readiness to work with the National Population Commission to generate accurate data in the forthcoming population census.
This was observed at the advocacy visit of the federal commissioner representing Ondo State in the commission, Mrs. Kemi Iyantan to the council area on Tuesday.
The Alara of Ilara-Mokin, Oba Abiodun Adefehinti who commended the federal commissioner for embarking on the advocacy visit emphasized the place of traditional authorities in mobilising residents for the exercise.
Similarly, the Adapogun of Ipogun, Oba Raphael Oluwadare Ojo suggested that Nigerian constitution should be amended to compel all citizens to obtain death certificates for the deseaced.
He also assured that residents of his community and environs would be mobilised ahead of the forthcoming census.
In his contribution, the Olubule of Ibule-Soro, Oba Oluleke David Ogunlade stated that their people would be enlightened on the importance of birth and death registration.
On his part, the Chairman of Ifedore local government, Ajibola Oladipupo said the council would not only mobilise the residents but also provide all necessary support for the success of the exercise.
In her speech, the federal commissioner, Mrs. Kemi Iyantan emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to engage the traditional authorities as well as relevant stakeholders towards achieving the set goals and objectives of the commission in line with Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Mrs Iyantan said development of the nation relies on the data collection and planning, particularly the need to obtain birth and death certificates from National Population Commission.
She stressed that the commission is the only government approved establishment to issue the certificates.
The visit did not end without meeting with the personnel of the commission in the local government area as the federal commissioner assured that all tools to work with would be provided and charged them to keep playing their parts.
