LABOUR TO SHUT DOWN ACCOUNTANT-GENERAL’S OFFICE OVER NON-PAYMENT OF THIRD PARTY DEDUCTIONS AND WAGE AWARD
The National leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council is Set to shut down the office of the Accountant General of the Federation over non payment of third party deductions and three months outstanding wage award for the Federal Public Servants
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Accountant General dated 26th January, 2026 captioned *Delayed in the payment of Third party deductions and outstanding of three months Wage Award to Federal Public Servants* signed by both the National Chairman, Comrade Benjamin Anto Uyanto mni and the National Secretary , Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council Trade Union Side
According to the letter, “The National leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council felt constrained to urgently bring to your attention the unwarranted delay in the payment of third party deductions and outstanding payments of N40,000 three months Wage Award to Federal Public Servants in Nigeria.
The letter further stated that, It is very expedient to state in a very clear term that the third party deductions are part of salary that were supposed to be paid alongside with monthly salaries of Workers , in an attempt not to pay is tantamount not to have paid the monthly salary of workers fully, whereas up till now the third party deductions for the month of December,2025 are yet to be paid by the office of the Accountant General of the Federation
“The present experiences being faced by workers are very unpalatable to the extent that the cooperative deductions that would have served as lifeline during the yuletide season was not accessible by all the contributors.”
In the same vein, check off deductions that were supposed to be paid to Trade unions to enable the concerned unions carry out their financial commitments such as payment of salaries of their Secretariat staff could not be fulfilled during festive period and up till now
Consequently, Staff of both the Workers cooperative societies and staff of Trade Unions celebrated Christmas and New year in penury and starvation because their salaries were not paid.
Equally, several letters have been submitted to facilitate the payment of three months outstanding payments of Wage Award but all to no avail
Arising from the above, the National leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) Trade Union Side have resolved that failure to pay the two aforementioned outstanding money on or before 30th January 2026 , Workers will be mobilised to occupy and picket the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and disrupt the official activities non stop with effect from Monday 2nd February, 2026.
It is to be stated without mincing words that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation has adopted empty promises on the payment of statutory as its trade mark which is not the best approach to corporate governance in the Public Service.
It is anti-humanity to allow the sweat of workers to dry before their wages are paid.
“By the notice of picketing, appropriate government and security agencies as well as the National leadership of NLC, TUC and eight (8) affiliate Unions of JNPSNC have been notified accordingly if the office of the Accountant General of the Federation refuses to meet the demand of the impoverished and disappointed Federal Public Servants.
