LAYELIGHT ’98 DONATES EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO ALMA MATER
….As 1998 Set of Layelu High School, Ode-Aye Emphasizes Giving Back To One’s Roots
The 1998 set of Layelu High School, Ode-Aye, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, popularly known as Layelight ’98, has donated educational materials to students of the school as part of efforts to promote academic excellence and support quality education.
Leading members of the association to their alma mater, the President of Layelight ’98, Mr Seyi Ayeju, said the initiative was aimed at encouraging students to remain committed to their studies while improving educational standards in the school.
According to him, the association is committed to developing human capacity by supporting students who, in turn, will become responsible citizens capable of giving back to society in the future.
Mr Ayeju noted that Layelu High School played a significant role in shaping the lives of members of the 1998 set before they graduated 28 years ago, adding that the values and knowledge acquired at the school have contributed immensely to their successes in life.
He urged the students to remain focused, disciplined and determined in pursuing their dreams, stressing that their future depends largely on the choices they make today.
The alumni president assured the school of continued support, noting that the donation was not the association’s first intervention and would certainly not be the last.
In his remarks, the Principal of the school, Mr Sayo Akinduro, commended the 1998 set for giving back to their alma mater, describing the gesture as an encouragement that would have a lasting impact on both the students and the institution.
While appreciating the association for its previous contributions towards improving learning in the school, Mr Akinduro appealed for more support, particularly in the area of infrastructure, noting that government alone could not meet all the needs of the education sector.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the Public Relations Officer, Mrs Omorinola Hungbeji, thanked the school management and parents for their appreciation of the initiative.
She encouraged the students to see the educational materials as a source of motivation and make judicious use of them in pursuit of academic excellence.
As part of the distribution, students who emerged first, second and third in each class received standard school bags, textbooks and writing materials. Awards were also presented to the most improved, most punctual and best-dressed students in each class, who received packs of notebooks and pens.
In addition, every student in the school received notebooks and pens, while one of the overall best-performing students was presented with the President’s Cash Award in recognition of outstanding academic performance.
Other representatives of the association present at the event included the Vice President, Mr Ilemobayo Akinnawonu; the Treasurer, Mrs Olanike Adetan; and a member, Mr Omololu Durosomo.
