AAUA VC HAILS GLOBAL FEATS OF ALUMNI, SAYS VARSITY HAS LIVED UP TO EXPECTATIONS
The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, has said that the institution has lived up to the expectations of her founding fathers by producing globally-competitive graduates in all spheres as attested to by the recent feats of some of her alumni, the duo of Dr. Tosin Gbogi, and Victor Ayebameru.
Dr. Gbogi, an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, was on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the ASAUK awards in Durham University named the winner of the Best Book Prize of the African Studies Association of the United Kingdom (ASAUK) for his book, “Nigerian Hip-Hop: Race, Knowledge, and the Poetics of Resistance”, published by Oxford University Press in 2025.
In another recognition of his scholarship, Gbogi’s essay, “Ears to the Ground: Realness, Decolonial Meta-rap, and the Language Debate in Nigerian Hip-Hop”, also received the 2026 Abioseh Porter Best Essay Award of the African Literature Association for an outstanding article in African literary studies.
In the same vein, Ayebameru, a graduate of Economics Education, emerged the world champion of the sixth International Quant Championship (IQC) defeating 156,000 competitors from 13 universities from four continents, at the finals of the global competition held in Singapore between October 6 and 7, 2026.
Speaking on Friday, October 9, 2026, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, said that the contributions of AAUA to human development both nationally and globally cannot be overemphasised, vowing that the current administration under his watch would emplace policies and programmes that would sustain the high acclaim of the institution’s graduates.
The Vice Chancellor noted that Dr. Gbogi has earned international recognition by clinching two prestigious awards for his scholarly contributions to African literary and cultural studies, while Ayebameru demonstrated the academic and moral discipline imbibed during his studentship to emerge number one in a world championship.
He said that it is heartwarming that the institution has carved an enviable niche for itself by consistently producing graduates that are flying high in their chosen careers the world over.
