COMMUNITY POLICING REMAINS GREATEST STRATEGY FOR ACHIEVING ADEQUATE GRASSROOTS SECURITY
Federal government should as a matter of urgency embrace community policing as it is the most effective way of tackling crimes.
The Ondo state chapter of the western nigeria security network Code-named Amotekun Corps commander, Adetunji Adeleye made this known an interactive meeting with Online Media Practitioners in Akure, the state capital on Wednesday.
According to him, “The federal agencies are trying their best but somebody who doesn’t know local community and terrain cannot operate successfully. A calabar man that is posted as an operation officer in Ondo state will start reading maps whereas a village man that I have employed already knows the area and the people living around.”
“When you look at the advanced countries, they have Federal police, they have metropolitan police and a lot of that. So, grassroot policing is the solution to perennial security problems in Nigeria.”
“community policing will surely assist in arresting the activities of the men of the under world since the locals know the nooks & crannies of the community than the hoodlums “
” I sincerely believe that, with the support of the locals, the activities of robbers & kidnappers will be curtailed , he said
Adeleye therefore pleaded with well meaning Nigerians to take the issue of security seriously and join hands with President Bola Tinubu in taking the country to an enviable end.
“I also want to appeal to all Nigerians to take the issue of security very serious, so as to make the nation a pride of place “
He further sought the support of government on the provisions of weapons and other security equipments to help the officers perform their duties more effectively.
He noted that the successes recorded so far was possible because of the smooth working relationship with government, other security agencies and the citizens of state.
However, the association chairman, Hakeem Adebumiti appreciated the commandant for his brilliant contributions in securing the state from the hoodlums
The Association Vice Chairman, Joseph Adesuyan, during the vote of thanks, applauded the commandant for his willingness in curbing the activities of criminals across the state.
