The Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Chief Olayato Aribo has clarified a statement credited to some news publications that the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, sold government tractors.
He stated that the government of Late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu bought tractors and sold to interested farmers at subsidised rates to encourage large-scale farming.
The commissioner noted that while some have paid in full, others are still paying instalmentaly.
According to a statement signed by the Media Manager in the Ministry, Sola Omoboyowa, “it is necessary to state that the Commissioner was misquoted by the publisher of the story.”
At a press briefing, Chief Aribo clearly stated that it was a government policy to encourage interested farmers to go into mechanised farming to boost food production in the state.
He explained that this led to situation where the government procured tractors and sold to farmers at subsidised rates to assist them in large scale farming.
He therefore urged media practitioners to carry out their activities with accuracy and utmost commitment it deserves.
