The event was to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of News Connect Magazine and recognise individuals who have contributed one way or the other to humanity.
The event held at First Molac Hotel in Akure the Ondo State capital had in attendance academics, politicians, media practitioners, servants in the vineyard and members of various segments of the society.
The Publisher, Mr. Taiwo Adebayo-Gold who is also the National President of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria(FIBAN) said the magazine was put in place to contribute to defence of democracy and promote good governance.
Adebayo-Gold stated that individuals recognised at the 3rd anniversary of the magazine had played significant roles in societal development as well as existence of the media outfit.
He singled out an SS3 student of St Louis Grammar School in Akure, Kehinde Seun-Adetola who has contributed to the magazine for three years without remuneration.
The Publisher also acknowledged roles of other philanthropists, professionals, servants in the vineyard for their consistency and passion for progress.
They include the Yeye Oodua of the United Kingdom, Chief(Mrs) Christiana Olayiwola, Gospel Singer, Evangelist Tolu Adelegan, Young Writer, Kehinde Seun-Adetola, Dr. Sanmi Adebo and Ondo State Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Muyiwa Alonge.
Speaking with newsmen at the event, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan harps on developmental journalism as a way of media influence on societal advancement.
Adeniyan congratulated the management of News Connect Magazine, particularly the Publisher, urging more commitment and service delivery.
The Chief Press Secretary emphasised the critical role of the media in sustaining and improving on the nation’s democracy.
The event also featured a Public Lecture on Treasury Looting: Nigeria and Cleavages of Corruption by Professor Kayode Arogundade who called for a collective effort in checking the rate of corruption in the country.
The former ASUU Chairman in Ekiti State University emphasized that the task is a collective responsibility.
The event was not without entertainment as the popular Supreme Ola Blessing, the Soldier Musician added glamour to the occasion.
