APC CHIEFTAIN OLUMUYIWA ADU CALLS FOR MORE TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT TOWARDS FIGHTING INSECURITY
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Barrister(Dr) Olumuyiwa Adu popularly known as Cubana has called for adequate technological advancement in fighting the increasing rate of insecurity in the country.
The former military leader also emphasized that the rate of intelligence gathering should be stepped up while the states should be allowed to have their own police.
In an interview with Naija Parrots in Akure, Dr. Olumuyiwa Adu stressed that the steps would go a long way in combatting various insurgencies giving Nigerians sleepless nights.
In his words, “If you look at the structure, you would realise that we are not really on the right path to solving this problem.
Just recently, I was in the bank and was surprised that a military personnel, soldier in uniform could not fill bank form”.
“The system has gone just beyond carrying riffles. If the police system is right, we may not even need the soldiers to be fighting Boko Haram. We need to re-strategise to ensure that our policemen should be able to read maps”.
“I am of the opinion that we really need to reorganize. Then why are we afraid of allowing the states to have their own police. The personnel would be able to manoeuvre their areas and monitor the locality”.
“We need to deploy more communication gadgets that will assist in networking. So, if any issues is happening anywhere, you Will be surprised to see a number of vehicles and personnel in prompt response”.
The All Progressives Congress leader stressed that “we need to go technological and bring in more hands that are knowledgeable to do the policing. There is the need to step up our intelligence gathering from the grassroots and the need for proper remuneration should be made a priority”.
“We need to reorganize the system.
And the moment you have the right set of people with right training, right equipment to work with, we will stop having these issues”, Adu added.
