
NIGERIA ON INDIGENOUS ROCKETRY AS NASRDA IN DIALOGUE WITH ORBITWORKS
In a decisive move to accelerate Nigeria’s space ambitions, the Director General and Chief Executive, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to partnerships that deliver tangible results, emphasizing the urgent need for capacity building, infrastructure development, and indigenous rocketry advancements.
A statement signed by the Director of Media and Communications of the agency says Dr. Adepoju spoke while receiving a team of experts from Orbitworks, a renowned satellite design and development firm, at the NASRDA headquarters in Abuja.
Addressing the delegation, the NASRDA helmsman, highlighted the importance of establishing a strategic platform that empowers Nigerian engineers and scientists to expand their expertise and technical proficiency.
According to him, NASRDA is blessed with one of the most qualified scientific workforces on the continent but requires the right facilities and an enabling environment to match our human capital with groundbreaking outputs.
Dr. Adepoju emphasized NASRDA’s aspiration to develop a fully indigenous rocketry program capable of launching payloads beyond 50 kilometers.
He said this ambition can only be realized through deliberate and strategic partnerships with technically capable stakeholders, such as Orbitworks.
In his remarks, the Director of Business Development at Orbitworks, Mr. Ralph Koyess, expressed the company’s readiness to collaborate with NASRDA in positioning Nigeria as a leading space technology hub in Africa.
He explained that Orbitworks is prepared to offer world-class satellite engineering services and technology transfer initiatives that will significantly boost Nigeria’s space capabilities.
In his presentation, the Co-Director at Orbitworks, Mr. Salim Al Alawi, showcased the firm’s achievements and outlined areas of proposed collaboration.
These include launch services, establishment of in-country ground infrastructure, provision of integrated software suites, extensive capacity-building programs, and commercialization support.
He further highlighted that Orbitworks is uniquely positioned to, support NASRDA’s vision through tailored solutions that are not only technologically advanced but also aligned with the country’s goals and aspiration.
