The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the South-West, Fayoade Mustapha, has commended the Ondo state government for prioritising the security of lives and property across the state.
DIG Mustapha gave the commendation on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Akure.
Speaking during the meeting, the DIG highlighted key areas where the collaboration between the Ondo State Government and security agencies has continued to produce positive results.
According to him, “I want to sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Governor for always rising to the occasion whenever security challenges arise.
“I also want to thank him for providing us with logistic supports, financial assistance and other things that enable us to carry out our assignments efficiently and to assure him that the IGP is ready to lead a Police Force that will keep the country safe. Police collaboration with the state government is yielding positive results”.
Mustapha explained that his visit to Ondo state was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, for DIGs to embark on regional sensitisation tours.
He said the exercise is aimed at engaging officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force on the security challenges ahead while assuring them of the IGP’s commitment to improving their welfare.
He added that the visit also provided an opportunity to meet with governors across the South-West to review existing security strategies and strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders.
“The visit is also to assure state governors that the Police are determined and prepared to tackle the nation’s security challenges. We are reviewing and fine-tuning our strategies, especially in the South-West where we have begun to witness emerging criminal activities, including the recent incident in Oyo state.
“We also need to let the governors know that their support is indispensable in this regard, and we appreciate all they have done. I must say that the governors across the region have been tremendous in supporting security efforts in their respective states,” the DIG said.
Responding, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, commended the Inspector General of Police for directing the DIGs to embark on regional tours to assess the security situation and develop strategies to address emerging threats.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies and sustaining its partnership with them to ensure effective policing and the safety of residents.
He also urged the Police to leverage technology and strengthen intelligence gathering to enhance crime prevention and law enforcement across the country.
Recently, the Ondo state government donated 50 operational vehicles to various security agencies as part of efforts to boost security, in addition to providing regular logistical and financial support.
