A Beacon of Wisdom, Loyalty and Service: Celebrating Chief (Alhaji) Amuda Ipaye, the Illustrious Olumogun of Isiri-Imogun, in Arrears of His Birthday
By Sir(Dr) Felix Babatunde Ale
There are men whose lives are measured not by the number of years they have lived, but by the depth of their impact on the lives of others.
There are leaders whose influence transcends titles and positions, becoming enduring symbols of peace, wisdom, integrity, and selfless service.
Such is the remarkable story of Chief (Alhaji) Amuda Ipaye, the revered Olumogun of Isiri-Imogun, Korowa Quarters, Oka-Akoko, Ondo State, whose life and leadership continue to inspire generations of sons and daughters of our beloved community.
Although I was far away in Accra, Ghana, on October 14, 2026, when our highly respected Olumogun celebrated his birthday, physical distance could never diminish the profound respect and admiration I have for him.
As a mark of honour and reverence, I rose on this glorious day to personally send my congratulatory message to him and also posted the same on the general platform of the great sons and daughters of Imogun.
As a writer and distinguished journalist, I firmly believe that it is never too late to create a special moment amidst a demanding schedule to celebrate excellence and pay tribute to greatness.
It is therefore with immense pleasure and nostalgia that I reflect on the inspiring life journey of our highly revered Chief, Alhaji Amuda Ipaye.
As a bona fide son of Isiri-Imogun, I grew up knowing the then Mallam Amuda Ipaye as one of the worthy sons of the highly respected Alhaji Ipaye, fondly known throughout Oka Kingdom as Baba Alfa Elegira of blessed memory.
Long before destiny elevated him to the exalted throne of Olumogun, he had already established himself as a man of uncommon character, discipline, and compassion.
Having retired from a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force and residing in Makurdi, Benue State at the time, Mallam Ipaye remained remarkably connected to his roots.
He was always at home whenever duty allowed and never relented in encouraging younger people to embrace education as the gateway to a brighter future.
One unforgettable incident remains permanently etched in my memory. Sometime in 1984, while I was in secondary school, I returned home during the mid-term break to spend quality time with my beloved grandmother, Mama Aruwagbola of blessed memory, whose affection for me knew no bounds.
One evening, several elders and community members gathered in front of the famous Baba Asani House, enjoying the cool evening breeze and sharing words of wisdom.
Suddenly, a loud commotion erupted from Adebisi’s house located behind Baba Asani House. Everyone rushed to the scene only to find two young men engaged in a violent fight.
Despite Baba Asani’s courage and intervention, the situation became increasingly uncontrollable as both men appeared determined to inflict serious harm on each other.
Then, as if sent by Providence, the young Mallam Amuda Ipaye appeared. With remarkable calmness, wisdom, and authority, he not only succeeded in stopping the fight but also amicably resolved the dispute.
It was my first close encounter with him, and I was profoundly impressed by his extraordinary conflict-resolution skills.
That singular event revealed the qualities that would later distinguish him as a respected traditional leader.
My second memorable encounter with him occurred sometime in 1996 in Makurdi, Benue State. At the time, I was serving as Press Attaché to the Military Administrator of Ondo State, Colonel Ahmed Usman.
During one of my annual holidays, I received an invitation to visit the then Military Administrator of Benue State, Group Captain Joshua Obademi. Upon arrival in Makurdi, I was accommodated at Government House.
However, I informed my hosts that I had a distinguished townsman residing in the city, Mallam Amuda Ipaye, whom I wished to visit. Through the assistance of Government House Protocol officials, I eventually located him.
What followed remains one of the most touching demonstrations of kindness and hospitality I have ever experienced.
Despite being an official guest of the Benue State Government, Mallam Amuda Ipaye and his wonderful wife took it upon themselves to ensure my comfort.
Day after day, they brought delicious meals to my chalet at Government House. Beyond that, Mallam Ipaye personally visited me daily, making sure I felt at home throughout my stay.
For a young man at the time, such affection, humility, and generosity were deeply humbling. That act of kindness eventually became a blessing.
The Military Administrator of Benue State, impressed by Mallam Ipaye’s dedication in looking after his guest, subsequently included him among the state’s contingent to perform the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca.
On his return from the Holy Land, Mallam Amuda Ipaye became Alhaji Amuda Ipaye, joining the ranks of the few Oka indigenes of his generation privileged to undertake the sacred pilgrimage.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, as the Olumogun of Isiri-Imogun, Alhaji Amuda Ipaye has continued to justify the confidence reposed in him by destiny and tradition.
His reign has been marked by peace, stability, wisdom, and constructive engagement. He remains one of the most respected chiefs in Oka Kingdom and one of the closest and most dependable lieutenants of our royal father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Yusuf Adebori Adeleye,OON, the Olubaka of Oka Kingdom.
His loyalty to the Olubaka is unquestionable. His commitment to the progress of Oka Kingdom is unwavering.
As a distinguished member of the Oka-Oba-in-Council, he continues to provide wise counsel and exemplary leadership.
As the renowned American statesman John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” This quotation perfectly captures the essence of Alhaji Amuda Ipaye’s leadership.
Similarly, Nelson Mandela’s timeless words remain relevant: “A good leader can engage in a debate frankly and thoroughly, knowing that at the end he and the other side must be closer.”
The peace-building disposition of Olumogun reflects this enduring principle.
Today, the people of Isiri-Imogun have every reason to celebrate one of their finest sons and traditional leader. However, beyond celebration, there is a greater responsibility before us.
The sons and daughters of Isiri Imogun and the wider Korowa Quarters under the leadership of High Chief Asalu of Korowa must continue to unite behind their leader.
Development flourishes where unity prevails. Peace prospers where cooperation exists.
Let us therefore reject division, embrace harmony, and offer our unwavering support to our leaders in their relentless efforts to promote progress in Isiri-Imogun and Korowa in general.
Let us ensure that the values of mutual respect, communal development, and brotherhood remain the guiding principles of our community.
As I conclude this tribute, I once again heartily congratulate Chief (Alhaji) Amuda Ipaye, the distinguished Olumogun of Isiri-Imogun, on his birthday in arrears.
May Almighty Allah continue to bless him with excellent health, strength, wisdom, and uncommon grace.
May his reign continue to bring peace, progress, and prosperity to Isiri-Imogun. May Allah bless his beloved family with joy, protection, and abundant blessings.
May all sons and daughters of Isiri-Imogun continue to flourish wherever they may be across the world.
And may enduring peace, unity, and development reign supreme in Isiri-Imogun, Korowa Quarters, and the entire Oka Kingdom.
Happy Birthday in Arrears, our beloved Olumogun.
Long may you live, and long may your noble legacy continue to shine as a guiding light for generations yet unborn.
