A TRIBUTE TO AFENIFERE LEADER, PA REUBEN FAMUYIDE FASORANTI AT 100
By Francis Olumuyiwa Fatokun
Today, history itself rises in honor of a man whose life has become a guiding light to generations. As Baba celebrates 100 glorious years on earth, we are not merely counting the passage of time — we are celebrating a century of courage, wisdom, sacrifice, leadership, and unwavering devotion to humanity and the Yoruba nation.
Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti is more than a man; he is an institution, a living embodiment of the true Omoluabi spirit. Born in 1926, Baba came into this world during a different era, yet through changing seasons, political storms, national struggles, and generational transitions, he has remained steadfast like the iroko tree — deeply rooted, unshaken, and full of strength.
Your life story is one written with honor. From the classrooms where you shaped young minds as an educator, to the political spaces where you stood firmly for justice, equity, and the advancement of the Yoruba people, your journey has been one of uncommon selflessness. You dedicated your life not to personal gain, but to service — service to your people, your community, and your nation.
As a disciple of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and a leading voice in Afenifere, you carried the torch of progressive leadership with dignity and integrity. In moments when silence would have been safer, you chose courage. In times when oppression tried to silence truth, you stood boldly for democracy, fairness, and the protection of Yoruba interests. Your resilience during the dark days of military oppression remains one of the strongest testimonies of your bravery and patriotism.
Baba, your generation built bridges where others built walls. You carried values that today’s world desperately longs for — honesty, discipline, humility, honor, and love for community. Your words have always carried wisdom, your actions have reflected integrity, and your presence alone commands respect.
At 100, your life is no longer simply a personal achievement; it is a national treasure. Your wrinkles are sacred marks of experience. Your grey hairs are crowns earned through decades of sacrifice and perseverance. You have seen Nigeria through colonial days, independence, military rule, democratic struggles, and modern transformation — yet your faith, clarity, and commitment to truth have remained unwavering.
Beyond politics and leadership, you have shown us the beauty of family, loyalty, and humanity. Your enduring love for your late wife and your devotion to family reflect the depth of your character as a compassionate father, husband, mentor, and elder statesman.
Today, the Yoruba nation celebrates one of its finest sons. Nigeria celebrates a patriot. And humanity celebrates a man whose life has become a compass of integrity.
May the Almighty continue to strengthen you with peace, sound health, joy, and fulfillment. May generations yet unborn continue to hear your story and learn from your example. And may your legacy continue to shine as a beacon of hope, wisdom, and honorable leadership for centuries to come.
Happy 100th Birthday to a rare gem, a fearless leader, a guardian of Yoruba ideals, and a true son of Oduduwa.
Long may your legacy live.
