The VC urged Bashorun Arogbofa, who was the Publicity Secretary of Ondo Provincial Movement that fought for the creation of Ondo State in 1976, to use his extensive contacts and goodwill to mobilise infrastructure support for the university.
Accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olusegun Akinwuni; and the Registrar, Dr. Olubunmi Babalola, the VC noted that the development of any institution needs support from all relevant stakeholders and should not be left for the government alone.
Prof. Obamuyi appreciated the octogenarian for the positive roles he had played in the development of education in Nigeria when he served as a teacher and Principal of several frontline schools, and his roles since the creation of Ondo State in general.
He added that Bashorun Arogbofa’s legacies would surely live after him.
In his response, Bashorun Arogbofa, who is a decorated Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and a winner of the national award of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), agreed with the Vice Chancellor that public institutions across the globe need the support and cooperation from various stakeholders in order to attain their objectives.
Bashorun Arogbofa promised to do his best in the areas of sensitising indigenes of Akoko land at home and in the diaspora on the urgency of immortalising their names and their communities through the donations of needed infrastructures inside the campus.
He also assured the university that he would always advocate on its behalf on matters concerning it at all fora.
The elderstatesman urged the university Management to sustain the high rankings and status of AAUA in terms of raising competent graduates that would continue to affect the course of national and global development in all spheres.
