Adekanmbi hails Aiyedatiwa for clearing RUGIPO arrears, urges total overhaul of management and board
In a wave of relief for staff and students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the immediate clearance of three months’ salary arrears owed to workers of the institution.
The Governor also confirmed the appointment of Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as the substantive Rector of the polytechnic, ending a period of uncertainty and acting leadership at the top management level.
Reacting to the development, prominent RUGIPO alumnus Hon. Femi Adekanmbi, PhD expressed gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for the timely intervention, describing it as a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of workers and the overall development of tertiary education in Ondo State.
“On behalf of the entire staff, students, and alumni of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, i want to sincerely thank His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for clearing the backlog of salary arrears.
This gesture has brought immense relief to our hardworking lecturers and non-academic staff who have endured months of financial hardship,” Adekanmbi said.
The Managing Director/ CEO, Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority added that the confirmation of Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as substantive Rector is a welcome development that will inject stability and purposeful leadership into the institution.
While commending the Governor’s proactive steps, Adekanmbi called for a total overhaul of the school’s management system to reposition RUGIPO as a leading polytechnic in Nigeria.

This should include transparency, accountability, and the injection of fresh ideas to drive academic excellence and infrastructural development,” he stated.
He further pleaded with the Governor to appoint competent and visionary individuals as members of the Governing Board of the polytechnic.
“We appeal to His Excellency to carefully select board members who are men and women of proven integrity, experience, and passion for educational advancement.
“Competent board members will provide the necessary oversight, policy direction, and support that will help the new Rector take RUGIPO to greater heights,” he stated .
The alumnus noted that with the right leadership team in place, the institution can overcome its past challenges and emerge as a centre of innovation, skills acquisition, and technological advancement in Ondo State and beyond.
