FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROVES PRIVATE UNIVERSITY FOR IKERE-EKITI
The Federal Government has granted a provisional licence for the operation of High-Flyers University, Ikere-Ekiti, as a private university in Ekiti State.
The licence was presented by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, to the Proprietor of the University, Dr Busayo Ajayi, at a ceremony held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Friday, July 24, 2026.
The certificate, dated June 29, 2026, was jointly signed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Ribadu.
The licence was granted following the fulfilment of all requirements for the establishment and operation of a full-fledged conventional private university in Nigeria.
In line with the modus operandi stipulated by the NUC, the University will commence academic operations with three faculties, comprising 11 departments and 15 undergraduate programmes.
Under the *Faculty of Allied Health Sciences*, the approved programmes are: Bachelor of Nursing Science, Bachelor of Public Health, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, and Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science.
For the *Faculty of Science and Computing*, approved courses include: Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Physics with Electronics, Science Laboratory Technology, and Microbiology.
Programmes approved under the *Faculty of Social and Management Sciences* are: Accounting, Business Administration, Criminology and Security Studies, and International Relations.
Reacting to the development, the Proprietor of the University, Dr Busayo Ajayi, expressed profound gratitude to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for the emergence of private universities capable of strengthening the nation’s educational system.
Dr Ajayi pledged to collaborate with world-class scholars to run a functional, globally competitive institution that will project Nigeria to an enviable height and significantly improve the country’s webometrics ranking.
