HOW OBALEO OF ERINMOPE-EKITI, OBA AIKUIRAWO ANIYI GOT RED CARPET RECEPTION IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr Sunday Aikuirawo Aniyi, the 20th Obaleo of Erinmope-Ekiti in Nigeria has just completed a successful three-day visit to Warwickshire, marking a significant step in fostering cultural and educational ties between his ancient kingdom and the UK.
During his visit, Dr Aniyi explored the historical and cultural landmarks of the region, including a tour of Leamington’s town hall, library, Jephson Gardens and Pump Rooms.
He also visited the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon and spent time at the University of Warwick, reflecting his background as a scholar and former university lecturer.
The visit also featured a civic reception hosted by Nigerian Prince and Leamington resident Chris Aniyi and his family at The Angel Hotel.
Dr Aniyi who holds a doctorate in communication arts, ascended the throne in his home town in December 2021 after a distinguished career in journalism, academia and public service, serving as a senior special assistant and principal private secretary to the Governor of Ekiti State.
Since his coronation in 2022, he has been dedicated to ensuring the peace, harmony and socio-economic development of his community, as well as promoting its rich culture and customs.
During his tour of the UK he took in cultures and values which could benefit his home state – as well as forming key business connections.
Speaking at the conclusion of his Leamington visit, Oba Aniyi said: “This visit has been an incredibly enriching experience.
“The warmth and hospitality shown to me by the people of Leamington has been exceptional.
“It’s a beautiful, historical town and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here.”
“It’s been a wonderful opportunity to share the rich cultural heritage of Erinmope-Ekiti and to explore potential for partnership and cultural exchange between our communities.”
