The Campus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun State was thrown in a panic mood this morning as some indigenes stormed the premises in traditional attire believed to be that of Ogboni Fraternity.
Their action was not unconnected to the grievances displayed last week over the appointment of Prof Adebayo Bamire as the Vice Chancellor of the University.
According to Naijaparrots reporter, Demola Kunlere, the people who are mostly female carried a banner with inscription “OAU @ 61: Enough is Enough” as they danced round the banner with traditional protest songs.
The indigenes had protested last week over the non-emergence of an indigene as the Vice Chancellor of the federal tertiary institution.
The new Vice Chancellor, Professor Bamire had defeated 19 others in the process put in place by the National Universities Commission in conjunction with the school management.
The list was shortlisted to 17 contestants after which Professor Adebayo Bamire emerged.
The latest move by the traditionalists caused fears among eye witnesses who expressed concern over the situation in a federal tertiary institution.
An eyewitness who spoke on the condition of anonymity lamented the development, arguing that Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife should not be treated like a local institution.
