ONDO APC PRIMARIES: CONCERNED PARTY MEMBERS REJECT IMPOSITION
…Urges NWC To Immediately Confirm Status Of Results Of Recently Conducted Primaries
Concerned members of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State have raised an alarm over orchestrated plans by some highly placed individuals within the party to cancel the recently conducted party primary in Ondo State, with the intention of granting automatic tickets to serving legislators.
Speaking with newsmen in Akure, the group led by Mr. Fola Adamolekun said the people’s mandate must not be stolen in silence, insisting that no nationwide cancellation of primaries has occurred and Ondo State will not be an exception.
He explained that the National Working Committee of the Party has described reports of blanket nullification as “false, misleading, and the handwork of fake news merchants, as such, the people should discard such reports, describing it as outright false.
“The National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has affirmed that there is no automatic ticket in our constitution. President Bola Tinubu also told Senate leaders that Governors, not Abuja, will decide candidates in their States, and that all aspirants must contest through consensus or direct primaries. The party’s position remains – there will be no automatic tickets for any of them. They must contest and earn their tickets”, he said.
The stakeholders therefore called on the National Working Committee and the State Executive Members of the All Progressives Congress to immediately confirm the status of the results of the recently conducted party primaries, adding that members would not accept any backdoor automatic ticket to any member, no matter how highly placed, insisting that members queued, voted, and were counted and their voice is sacred.
The group equally called on the Party’s Appeal Committee to follow due process, review evidence before it and publish findings within 14 days, stressing that imposition is not an appeal process.
It added that the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State was built on loyalty and grassroots democracy, and those peddling false news about cancellation of primaries and automatic tickets to past legislators should desist and uphold the Electoral Act and the APC Constitution.
