ONDO POLICE RECOVER STOLEN LEXUS SUV, ARREST SUSPECTS IN AKURE
The Ondo State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained fight against violent crimes with the recovery of a Lexus RX350 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) stolen at gunpoint and the arrest of two suspected armed robbers linked to a criminal operation.
In line with the operational directives of the Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+), NPM and the crime-fighting strategies of the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, operatives of the Akure Area Command acted swiftly on a complaint of armed robbery and launched an intelligence-driven investigation that culminated in the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the apprehension of the principal suspects.
The incident occurred on 23rd July, 2026, at about 8:40 p.m., when armed men reportedly attacked a victim at Advic Resort, Alagbaka, Akure and forcefully dispossessed him of his Lexus RX350 SUV. Upon receipt of a formal complaint from the victim, Mr. Yemi Adeyemi, on 24th July, 2026, detectives attached to the Akure Area Command immediately commenced a painstaking investigation, combining intelligence gathering with strategic field operations to trail the perpetrators.
In a statement signed by the Police PRO in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the sustained efforts of the investigators yielded positive results as the stolen vehicle was subsequently recovered at the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo Campus axis where it was abandoned. The vehicle was recovered intact and taken into police custody as investigations progressed.
Further intelligence-led operations led to another significant breakthrough on 25th July, 2026, with the arrest of two suspects identified as Adeoba Precious, 31 years and Oluwapelumi Babayemi, 30 years. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery activities within and outside the state.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime. Subsequent searches conducted at their hideouts led to the recovery of a stun gun loaded with one rubber bullet, a jerk knife and the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody as critical evidence while forensic and technical analysis continues.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp commended the professionalism and resilience displayed by the operatives whose swift response and painstaking investigation culminated in the successful recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.
He noted that the feat underscores the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention across Ondo State.
The Commissioner reassured residents that the Command remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks responsible for kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes. He further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, recover additional exhibits and ensure that everyone connected with the criminal enterprise is brought to justice.
CP Ohagwu therefore urges members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely, credible and actionable information, assuring that every piece of intelligence received will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
He reaffirms that the Ondo State Police Command will not relent in its determination to safeguard lives and property and sustain the prevailing peace and security across the state.
