ONDO SET TO DISTRIBUTE TRANSFORMERS TO COMMUNITIES ACROSS THREE SENATORIAL DISTRICTS
In a strategic move to reduce power outages, improve electricity supply, and stimulate economic and social activities across Ondo State, the Ondo State Government has commenced the first phase of the distribution of 15 electricity transformers of various capacities, including 100KVA x 11KV/415V, 300KVA X 11KV/415V, and 500KVA X 11KV and 33KV/415V, to communities across the three senatorial districts of the State.
The Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, made the announcement during the formal handover ceremony held at the Ministry’s premises in Akure, where representatives of the beneficiary communities were present.
Speaking at the event, Engr. Alabi reiterated that energy remains a key pillar of the OUR EASE development agenda of Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. He explained that the Governor approved the procurement and distribution of transformers to communities in need as part of his administration’s commitment to providing reliable and safe electricity to residents across the State.
The Commissioner commended the beneficiary communities for their patience and described the exercise as the first phase of a broader intervention aimed at strengthening electricity infrastructure. He assured the communities that installation of the transformers would commence without delay.
“This intervention will be implemented in phases. The second phase will commence soon, and the exercise will continue until our objective of building a more efficient and reliable electricity sector across Ondo State is achieved,” he said.
Engr. Alabi further noted that the transformers were being distributed in line with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s directive to provide immediate relief to communities experiencing electricity challenges. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to introducing more initiatives that will enhance power infrastructure, improve electricity supply, and ultimately raise the standard of living of the people.
Earlier, the General Manager of the Ondo State Electricity Board (OSEB), Engr. Akin Ogunmakinwa, explained that the ceremony was organised to formally hand over the approved transformers to communities whose requests had been considered and approved by the Governor.
He disclosed that the Government received over 400 requests for transformers from communities across the State. Due to the overwhelming demand, the Governor approved their distribution in phases, with the first batch covering 15 communities.
“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency for responding to the yearnings of the people and making this intervention a reality,” Ogunmakinwa stated.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiary communities, Prof. Michael Bamidele expressed profound gratitude to God for the successful occasion and commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his responsiveness to the needs of the people.
Bamidele also appreciated the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, for his dedication and commitment to improving electricity supply across the State.
He urged communities yet to benefit to remain hopeful, expressing confidence that subsequent phases of the programme would extend to other deserving communities.
According to a statement signed by the Media Officer in the ministry, Debbie Funmilayo, communities represented at the ceremony included NSCDC Community, Oda Road, Akure; Moferere Community, Ipinlere Road, Odode-Idanre; Ijigba III, Olasipe Layout, Off Oda Road, Akure; Oluwafemi Quarters, Off Aule Road, Akure; and Oluwatedo Community, Off FUTA North Gate, Akure, among others.
Also present were Hon. Stephen Abitogun, representing Akure South II Constituency on behalf of the Chairman, House Committee on Electricity, Hon. Tope Komolafe, alongside other officials of the Ondo State Electricity Board.
