AAUA MOURNS EX-ACTING VICE CHANCELLOR, PROF AWOBULUYI
The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, has commiserated with the family of a former acting Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Oladele Awobuluyi, who passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
A statement by Prof. Obamuyi described the late university and renowned academic as a visionary and principled don who contributed immensely to the development of the then young university during his tenure as acting Vice Chancellor between June 2009 and January 2010.
The letter stated inter alia, “During his tenure as acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Awobuluyi introduced profound innovations and established sound academic and administrative standards that established the new university and put it on a footing of excellence and reckoning among the comity of universities globally and nationally.
“As a renowned academic and linguist, Prof. Awobuluyi contributed immensely to the establishment and development of the Department of Linguistics in the university and was a notable light in the development of Linguistics globally.”
Prof. Obamuyi added, “We attest to the visionary leadership, uncommon dedication, and top-notch scholarship of Prof. Awobuluyi while his stay at the university lasted and his wisdom and contributions even in retirement.
“The University Community has lost an astute administrator, a brilliant academic, a father of its Linguistics Department and a pillar of university governance.”
The Vice Chancellor assured the family of the late don that Adekunle Ajasin University stands with them in these trying times, even as he prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and the fortitude for the family to bear the loss.
