TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT: ONDO RESTRICTS TRUCK LOADING, OFFLOADING ALONG ARAKALE ROAD
…Prohibits Overnight Parking Of Trucks, Roadside Car Parking
As part of ongoing efforts to restore order, improve traffic flow and create a more efficient transportation system, Special Adviser to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Transport, Hon. Muyiwa Ogunyemi has held a sensitization meeting with Business and Shop Owners Association in the Arakale axis of the state capital.
The meeting provided an opportunity to engage directly with business owners and other stakeholders on the persistent traffic congestion around the area, while collectively discussing practical and sustainable measures to address the situation.
After extensive deliberations, the following resolutions were reached:
1. Scheduled Truck Loading and Offloading Hours
Truck loading and offloading activities along the Arakale axis will henceforth be restricted to the following periods:
– Morning: 6:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.
– Evening: 5:00 p.m. – dawn.
Any business owner or operator intending to load or offload goods is required to notify the Ministry of Transportation in advance, so that a Traffic Warden can be deployed to manage vehicular movement and ensure that the activity does not disrupt the free flow of traffic.
2. Ban on Roadside Car Parking
Parking of cars along both sides of the major road on the Arakale axis is now prohibited.
There are designated car parks, inner roads and adjoining streets within the axis that can be utilised by motorists. Business owners, customers and visitors are therefore encouraged to make proper use of these available spaces rather than obstructing the major road.
3. No Overnight Parking of Trucks
Overnight parking of trucks along the major road is strictly prohibited.
In his words, “trucks must not remain on the road after completing their loading or offloading operations, as such practices contribute significantly to traffic obstruction and congestion”.
“These measures are not intended to inconvenience business owners or restrict commercial activities. Rather, they are designed to create a balance between economic activities and the need for safe, orderly and efficient traffic movement.”
“I appreciate the understanding and cooperation demonstrated by the business community during the meeting. Sustainable traffic management can only be achieved when government and stakeholders work together, understand one another and take collective responsibility for keeping our roads functional.”
“Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chief Ezeorji T.C., Chairman of the Association, expressed appreciation for the engagement and commended the initiative, describing it as a timely and necessary intervention for the state’s transportation system at this critical period.”
He said “we remain committed to continuous engagement with stakeholders as we work towards a transportation system that is safer, more orderly, more efficient and beneficial to all residents of Ondo State.”
