
NASRDA ENGAGES LEADING CHINESE SATELLITE COMPANY ON STRATEGIC COLLABORATION
The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has reaffirmed NASRDA’s strategic dominance as the most expansive and integrated Space Agency in Africa, with specialized coverage across all geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
A statement by the Director, Media and Corporate Communications of the National Space Research and Development Agency,Dr Felix Ale says the Agency headsman made the statement during a high level engagement with Beijing MINOSPACE Technology Co.Ltd, a leading Chinese commercial satellite firm at NASRDA headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Adepoju noted that NASRDA’s robust geographical spread and domain-specific expertise reflect its commitment to delivering high-impact satellite applications in fields such as disaster monitoring, agriculture, urban planning, and National security.
The NASRDA boss explained that the partnership conversation with MINOSPACE was initiated at a global forum in Cairo, Egypt, where the presentation of sub-meter resolution Satellite technologies by the Chinese company caught the attention of the Nigerian delegation.
Dr. Adepoju noted that NASRDA is currently undergoing a meticulous vetting process to determine the most suitable type of satellite platform to be co-developed with international partners like MINOSPACE.
He added that Nigeria’s Space ecosystem enjoys a cordial and longstanding relationship with the Chinese Space sector.
The NASRDA boss also commended the MINOSPACE team for their demonstrated technical capacity and willingness to work with Nigeria on mutually beneficial terms.
In his remarks, the Co-Founder of MINOSPACE, Huan Yiheng, stated that China and Nigeria share over six decades of strategic partnership, adding that their company is committed to delivering advanced and sustainable solutions to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
He pledged their readiness to give Nigeria the very best in satellite innovation to sustain the enduring relationship.
Presenting on MINOSPACE’s technological offerings, the Director of Marketing, Xu Huan disclosed that the company develops a wide range of satellite platforms from 10 kg to 2000 kg known for their high precision, autonomy, cost-effectiveness, and durability.
Huan added that MINOSPACE has successfully developed core satellite components independently, delivering compact, lightweight, and highly integrated systems that meet international standards.
He stressed that optical and remote sensing satellite constellations can provide continuous Earth observation which is essential for Nigeria’s needs in border surveillance, environmental monitoring, agricultural planning, and National security.
He further said the high-resolution Optical imaging systems enable clear detection of surface features, which is key for crop assessments, urban planning, and defense.
