100 DAYS: AIYEDATIWA INAUGURATES 7KM ROAD PROJECT IN AKURE
The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has said that the commissioning of the newly reconstructed Gbangbalogun Axis Road in Akure marks a pivotal step in his administration’s infrastructural renewal agenda aimed at driving urban transformation and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
He made this declaration on Friday during the commissioning ceremony held opposite Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun, along the Gbangbalogun axis of the state capital.
The Governor described the event as a significant milestone in his administration’s first 100 days in office, underlining the government’s focus on delivering impactful governance through the “OUR EASE” agenda—a policy blueprint centered on infrastructure, social development, and economic efficiency.
The Gbangbalogun road, which connects Irowo Road to the high-traffic Arakale–Oke-Aro–Idanre corridor, had for years remained in deplorable condition. According to the Governor, pre-intervention assessments revealed extensive pavement failures, severe cracking, potholes, and structural deterioration that rendered the road burdensome to motorists and commuters alike.
“This event, occurring within our Administration’s first 100 days in office, unequivocally underscores our resolute commitment to impactful progress. This road project is a strategic intervention designed not only to ease traffic congestion but also to stimulate economic activity and improve public welfare.
“The Gbangbalogun axis is a vital urban artery. Our intervention here is part of a broader infrastructure strategy that ensures improved access, boosts economic vibrancy, and reduces vehicle maintenance costs for our people”, he said.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the timing of the road’s rehabilitation aligns with ongoing work on the larger Oke-Aro–Idanre Road, which had been recently flagged off.
He explained that fixing the Gbangbalogun link ahead of the main arterial route was a calculated and proactive decision to avoid future traffic bottlenecks and support efficient traffic distribution in the area.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also extended his appreciation to the residents and road users in the Gbangbalogun area for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period. He acknowledged the inconvenience that often comes with major civil works but noted that their understanding was vital to the project’s success.
Also speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olawoye Abiola, revealed that the newly commissioned roads cover a combined distance of seven kilometers. He added that several other road projects are ongoing across the State and would be completed in phases.
“These roads are not just physical structures; they represent the Governor’s vision for a modern, connected, and economically vibrant Ondo State,” Engr. Abiola said.
In his goodwill message, the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, commended the Governor for his quick and responsive approach to the developmental needs of the Akure people. He described the projects as timely and impactful, noting that the roads would bring immense relief to commuters and boost commercial activities within the city.
“We are glad that under this administration, Akure is witnessing real development. These roads have long been in need of attention, and we are grateful that the Governor has acted swiftly. All of us in Akure will continue to support you and ypur administration.” the monarch stated.
The Chairman of Akure South Local Government Area, Hon. Gbenga Fasua, also expressed appreciation to the Governor on behalf of the local government and its residents. He noted that the projects reflect the Governor’s inclusive leadership style and his dedication to fulfilling promises made to the people.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering commitment to infrastructure renewal and people-oriented leadership.
Dr. Fasoranti commended the Governor for setting a pace of purposeful governance within his first 100 days in office, assuring the people of more impactful projects in the days ahead.
In attendance were the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, represented by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Omowumi Isaac, Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Head of service, Mr Bayo Philip, The Grand Imam of Akure, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Yayi-Akorede, traditional rulers, political leaders, among others.
