The Converner of BAT Vanguard in Nigeria, Hon. Sola Olofin has called for free and fair presidential primary election as race to the 2023 elections hots up.
This was contained in a statement by the Ekiti-born APC Chieftain in his reaction to the emergence of Senator Abdulahi Adamu as the new National Chairman of the party as well as other positions.
While expressing concern over the circumstances that led to the emergence of the new Chairman, Olofin charged leaders of the party to prepare for possible post-election agitations with a view to ensuring peaceful co-existence among members.
The Converner said “Given the manner in which the new APC NWC emerged, the post-convention agitations should be expected and we need to brace up as events unfold. Why President Muhammadu Buhari insisted Sen. Abdullahi Adamu should be awarded the much contested and coveted seat of APC Chairmanship is a matter that many party loyalists are still yet to come to terms with”.
He stressed that “intrigues that preceded the conduct of the much anticipated APC National Convention, finally, it has come and gone albeit with grumbling and bickering from all persons of interest which has left the party with a huge burden to say the least.
Olofin claimed that the roles played by the past leadership of the party was not sufficient, charging the new leadership to brace up and make the interest of the party their priority.
His words, ” The former APC Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as Chairman practically displayed and used the enormous powers invested in a sitting party Chairman. To elaborate further, the Acting CCEPC Chairman, Gov. Mai Mala Buni didn’t just administer the office with impunity but actually attempted to undermine Mr. President and hold the Party to ransom by postponing the conduct of the convention twice and would have even truncated the just concluded convention if not for the intervention of President Buhari”.
“Regardless of the circumstances that brought in a new Chairman, we remain resolute in the actualisation of our aspiration as loyal and law abiding party members”, Olofin assured.
The BAT Converner in the country said “Without mincing words, our target is the Presidency of this Great Nation and we are urging Mr. President and the new NWC to micro zone the presidential ticket to the SouthWest just as the National Chairmanship was micro zoned to the North Central. This is the equitable and just thing to do because of the great contributions by the SouthWestern region to the success of APC thus far”.
“Now that Mr. President has successfully installed his preferred choice as Party Chairman, I want to use this medium to appeal to him to henceforth stay neutral and resist any pressure to impose a presidential candidate on the party. Let there be a free and fair APC Presidential Primary Election. This should be a worthy parting gift from the outgoing President and we hope that good reason shall prevail”, Olofin added.
