
65TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY: ISLAMIC CLERIC YAYI-AKOREDE PREACHES PATRIOTISM, AS ONDO HOLDS JUMAT SERVICE TO COMMENCE CELEBRATIONS
Top government functionaries in Ondo State on Friday converted on the Akure Central Mosque for the Jumat Service to kickstart the 65th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria in the state.
The event was presided over by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, mni.
Other top government functionaries in attendance include the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Imam of Akure, Sheikh Abdul-Akeem Yayi-Akorede urged Nigerians to reflect on the labour of the past heroes of the country and be patriotic citizens.
The Cleric emphasized that Nigerians should emulate Americans by praying for their country all the time and avoid statements that are detrimental to the unity of the country.
In his words, “we should stop speaking ills about our leaders. If at all there are issues not clear to us , we should seek the intervention of opinion moulders and leaders who could take the case to the leaders”.
The Chief Imam used the occasion to acknowledge the leadership style of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, Secretary to State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti and other members of the team for their commitment to the development of the land and the people.
In his remarks, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the various roles played by past leaders in the country to ensure unity and overall development.
Aiyedatiwa who spoke through his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami,mni assured that his administration would continue to put in place people-friendly policies and programmes that would justify the “Our Ease” Agenda of his administration.
He also urged Nigerian citizens to have hope in the reforms being championed by President Bola Tinubu towards restoring the economic glory of the country.
Prayers were offered for Ondo State, Nigeria and overall development of the nation.
