JUSTICE MINISTRY CLEARS EX-AGF AONDOAKAA OF UTAN BRAMA ALLEGATIONS
The Federal Ministry of Justice has officially cleared former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, of any involvement in the Utan BRAMA compensation saga, following revelations contained in a letter from the Office of the Solicitor-General.
The letter, dated October 20, 2015, confirmed that the N350 million paid to the Utan BRAMA victims was effected with the consent of all parties and served as a full settlement of the judgment long before Chief Aondoakaa assumed office in 2007.
According to the Solicitor-General, no payments were made between July 2007 and February 2010, while all attempts to secure interest on the judgment during that period were rejected.
The correspondence sighted by this newspaper also identified the lawyers who prosecuted the case on behalf of the victims, including Joe Agi, G.A. Udousoro, Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, and Barrister Akwagwu, while confirming that Chief Aondoakaa’s law firm was never involved.

A senior official of the Ministry of Justice, who spoke on the condition of anonymity questioned the logic behind the allegations.
“How can a man who assumed office in 2007 be accused of sharing money paid in 2006, when records clearly show that Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, was the Attorney-General at the time?” the official queried.
The official further disclosed that no payments whatsoever were made to the Utan BRAMA community during the administration of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, reinforcing the position that Chief Aondoakaa neither authorised nor influenced the settlement.
