The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commended Ondo State Government on achieving wide coverage of the maternal and child immunisation programmes
The UNICEF officer in charge of Akure Field Office, Mrs Ada Ezeugwo gave the commendation on in Akure, the Ondo State capital during the flag-off ceremony of the February 2022 Round of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW).
Ezeugwo noted that Ondo State was one of the states that had performed well in the immunisation of children and mothers in Nigeria
According the Media Manager of Ministry, the UNICEF Officer said the state government had improved lives of children and women, saying that the immunisation had reached an impressive level.
Ezeugwo urged the government to improve on the success, promising that UNICEF would continue to support it in all areas affecting children and women.
In her speech, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the wife of the governor of the state, thanked Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his efforts toward ensuring child protection, survival and development.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu emphasized that the governor provided enabling environment and resources needed for the successful implementation of the August 2021 Round of MNCHW in the state.
She lauded the Save One Million Lives (SOML) initiative, state Ministry of Economic Budget and Planning; and all partners for their technical and financial support for children and women.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka said the MNCHW is a week-long event organised to deliver an integrated package of preventive services.
Ajaka said the services were known to be highly cost- effective for improving maternal and child health survival.
Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu commended the wife of the Governor for her efforts in catering for children and women in the eighteen local government areas of the state.
