The House of Representatives candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ekiti Central Constituency II in the 2023 general election and a former Chief of Staff to the Governor of Ekiti, Hon. Biodun Omoleye has expressed sadness over the sudden death of the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye
In a statement, he personally signed and made available to journalists in Ado- Ekiti on Thursday, the former CoS described the demise of the Speaker as shocking.
Afuye who was seen looking hale and hearty at the State functions some hours before, was confirmed dead at the Ekiti state Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 after succumbing to cardiac arrest.
Omoleye who could not hide his pain said he received the painful exit of the 6th Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly with a shattered heart.
He said his painful death at a time his services are still hugely needed,
was a rude and a colossal loss, not only to his family but also to Ekiti-kete and humanity in general.
The statement reads in parts, “Death is an inevitable end that will come when it will come. To paraphrase William Shakespeare’s immortal words, the world is a stage in which all the men and women are merely players. Rt. Hon. Afuye has acted his own role creditably well in the theatre of life and has subsequently descended the stage. All we can do is to emulate his good deeds and deployed them to the good of Ekiti people in which he lived and died for. He died in active service to his nation and Ekiti State in particular.”
He described Afuye as a dear brother and confidant; a fine gentleman, reliable democratic and a pillar of progressive politics.
According to him, his demise has created a very big and obvious vacuum in the political firmament of Ekiti State, and indeed among the progressives in Nigeria.
While praying for the departed soul to rest in peace, Omoleye expressed his heartfelt condolence to his widow, children, family, associates, followers and well-wishers.
He enjoined them to take solace in the fact that the Late Afuye left behind a good name and legacy we are all proud of.
