SACRED HEART SEMINARY AKURE OLD BOYS HOLD MAIDEN CAREER/MENTORSHIP DAY TO GUIDE STUDENTS
The Sacred Heart Seminary Akure Old Boys’ Association has carried out its maiden Career and Mentorship Day to guide the current students of the school in choosing their career in the nearest future.
The programmme held in the school premises at Araromi Area of the state capital had in attendance representatives of the school authority, old boys as well as various professionals who delivered lectures on the professions.
In his opening speech, the President of the Association, Mr. Dominic Alade said the programmme was put in place to play significant roles in creating a vibrant future leaders who would play their part in the required human and societal development in Nigeria and beyond.
Alade said various structures and processes have been put in place to ensure the improvement and sustenance of the programmme being planned to make an annual event.
The President appreciated all alumni both locally and internationally who contributed to the success of the programmme, assuring that other Interventionist programmes are being designed to give back to the school that made them what they are today.
Similarly, the school Rector, Revd. Fr. Leo Aregbesola described the programmme as timely at a stage the modern generation are faced with uncertainty in deciding the profession they intend to practice in future.
Aregbesola commended the Sacred Heart Seminary Akure Old Boys’Association for embarking on the programmme, assuring that the school would continue to provide enabling and conducive environment for teaching and learning in the school.
Speakers at the Career and Mentorship Day include Dr. Emmanuel Momoh who spoke on the medical profession and Barrister Theophilus Akinmuagun who enlightened the students on the place of legal profession in ensuring peace and tranquility in human society.
Others are Dr. Niran Thomson of the Federal University of Technology Akure who analysed how being an academic can determine a status as well as their roles in building future leaders as well as Revd. Fr. Anthony Adebusuyi whose focus was on priesthood and its place in achieving robust evangelisation in the society.
They all charged the students to make their studies a priority while their focus must be what they should contribute to the society to justify the existence of Nigeria as a true giant of Africa.
There was question and answer segment which provided more opportunities for enlightenment as the guest speakers also shed more light on the various topics treated.
Other speakers who include Mr. Lanre Duyile, a businessman; Mr. Adebayo and a former member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dele Fajemilehin charged the students not to look down on anyone in life and respect one another, especially their tutors and the school authority.
The maiden Career and Mentorship Day was rounded off with refreshments and photo section with all students as well as both academic and non-academic staff.
The school was created in 1961 and had produced movers and shakers of the Nigerian economy while many are making waves in their chosen career outside the country.
Some notable alumni of the school include Professor Bodunde Owolabi of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Emmanuel Onijigin, Mr. Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Hon. Dele Fajemilehin, a former legislator in Ekiti State and Sir Charles Titiloye, the current Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State.
Others are Most Revd. Martin Uzougwu, the Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, Most Revd. Francis Obafemi Adesina, the Catholic Bishop of Ijebu Ode Diocese, Revd. Fr. Anthony Adebusuyi, the Director of Evangelisation in the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Revd. Fr. Emmanuel Babalola, the Principal, St. Finbars College, Lagos State as well as Dr. Niran Thomson of the Federal University of Technology Akure and Dr. Pius Idowu Adeojo, Medical Practitioner in Ekiti State.
