2024 IWD: IYA ADINNI OF AKURE, ALHAJA GIDADO URGES APPOINTMENT OF MORE WOMEN IN ONDO CABINET
As Nigeria joins the rest of the World to celebrate the 2024 International Women’s Day, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC, in Akure South local government area of Ondo State, Alhaja Hon. F. I Gidado (The Iya Adinni of Akure Kingdom ), has congratulated Nigerian women particularly, Ondo State women on the widely celebrated occasion.
This was contained in a message she personally signed and sent to the public in Akure.
The APC Chieftain who described women as home makers and moulders of the society, called on women to be more focused on building a morally and an upright society.
The Iya Adinni of Akure Kingdom who commended the Ondo State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa over his various initiatives targeted at transforming the state, however appeals to the Governor, to implement the 35 percent affirmative action for women, a policy that demands 35 percent involvement of women in all governance processes, which she stated, would further promote gender equality, fairness, and inclusion.
Speaking on the 2024 theme, “Invest in women: Accelerate Progress,”, she noted, that it expresses the importance of gender equality, women’s and girls’ empowerment, and their rights to healthier lives, noting that women’s exceptional contributions across various fields of endeavour is golden and immeasurable.
She, however, enjoined mothers to be up and doing with a view to giving their children a good training that would guide them towards becoming future leaders.
Alhaja Gidado condemned the situation where mothers now allow computer, iPad and social media to take over the training of the little ones, which often mislead them into watching and viewing immoral scenes that could influence them into the wrong path.
According to her; “The training in iPad and other social media would only turn the children to computer children, create time for your children so that you will enjoy them at your old age.
“We are Africans, and we value morals and integrity is our watchword. Yahoo and Internet fraud shouldn’t be our children’s solution to poverty”, she counseled.
Alhaja Gidado condemned violence against women and called on government at all levels to make a law criminalizing all acts capable of dehumanizing women and the girl-child like rape, modern slave trade and other means of child abuse.
