HOW ODSG IMPOUNDED TRAILER WITH ADULTERANTS WORTH OVER 200 MILLION NAIRA

The Ondo State Government, through the Produce Sub-Sector of the State Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has impounded a trailer loaded with dried cocoa placenta and cocoa pud, used as adulterants for cocoa beans.
The Produce Department’s vigilant staff caught the suspects offloading the trailer at unregistered produce operating facility on Road 13, Avenue 21, Funbi Fagun, Ondo, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area.
This achievement resulted from the collaborative efforts of cocoa merchants in Ondo and the state government to rid the state of economic saboteurs.
According to the Head, Publicity and Media Relations, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Sola Omoboyowa the Produce Department received a tip about a trailer loaded with adulterants being offloaded in Ondo, and a director in the department, Mr. Rufus Akinnadeju, led other staff to the scene.
The trailer was impounded and brought to Akure.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Chief Olayato Aribo, applauded the officers of the department for being proactive and urged them not to relent in their efforts to rid the state of economic saboteurs.
The Commissioner spoke through the Permanent Secretary of Forestry/Produce sub-sector of the Ministry, Mr. Oluwagbenga Akingbasote, mni, saying the government will not fold its arms and allow people to spoil the cocoa trade in the state.
According to him, the Ministry, through the Produce Department, is backed by law to supervise, monitor, and register produce items buyers in the state. He added that, as a regulatory body, they will continue to do their work diligently to ensure the state is free from economic saboteurs deliberately killing the cocoa and other produce trade in the state.
He commended the efforts of cocoa merchants in Ondo for providing timely information, leading to the impoundment of the trailer, stressing that the war against adulteration is a collective effort, and all hands must be on deck to stop the act of adulteration in the produce trade in the state and in the country at large.
