OWO GETS TEACHING HOSPITAL AS OBA OGUNOYE RECEIVES FG DELEGATION ON FACILITIES INSPECTION
The Olowo of Owo Kingdom and Paramount Ruler of Owo Land, His Imperial Majesty, Alayeluwa, Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, on Monday, 20th January, 2025 received a 7-man delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja on inspection tour of available facilities for the upgrade of Federal Medical Centre, Owo to a Teaching Hospital status.
This is as an approval has been given for the affiliation of the Teaching Hospital to the Medical College of the Achievers University, Owo.
The high-powered delegation led by the Director of Hospital Services, Dr Jimoh Salaudeen,mni was at the Olowo’s Palace to discuss the ambitious plan with the traditional authority and other stakeholders.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Bode Ayorinde led the Management of Achievers University while the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Dr Ilyasu Ahmed led the officials from the FMC.
Oba Ajibade Ogunoye expressed his deepest joy over the visit, saying “it is a new dawn in Owo considering the benefits of having a Teaching Hospital in the kingdom, as such referral hospital will upscale health care delivery that will be available not only for the good people of Owo”.
The traditional authority said other residents and Nigerians from environs would also benefit from the development just as job opportunities for the unemployed would be provided.
Oba Ogunoye also expressed hope that the Teaching Hospital would also stimulate economic activities beyond the kingdom.
The traditional ruler appreciated Dr. Bode Ayorinde for his vision for the University and steps towards collaboration with the Federal Medical Centre to actualise the dream of having the Medical Center transformed into a Teaching Hospital.
In his response, the leader of the delegation, Dr Jimoh Salaudeen, who appreciated the warm reception accorded his team by His Majesty, disclosed that coming to Owo was not just as representatives of the Federal Government saddled with a special responsibility but as advocates for improved health and well-being of the people of the kingdom in particular and Nigerians generally.
He pointed out that, the delegation was raised by the authority to facilitate the transformation of the Federal Medical Hospital in Owo, into a Teaching Hospital, a place where future healthcare professionals will be trained to service not only Nigeria, but the world at large.
He said the Teaching Hospital will be a place where specialized care will be available for all as well as serve as a research center, promising to deliver a thorough job on the assignment.
While contributing, Dr. Ayorinde thanked the delegation for making it to Owo despite their busy schedules.
He pointed out the quest of the kingdom over the years to have a functional University until such was realized through the Achievers University.
Ayorinde promised good and beneficial relationships with the Teaching Hospital when it eventually commences operations.
