
AIYEDATIWA TASKS OLD STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATIONS ON EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
…As Aquinas College 83/88/89 Set Renovates School Dinning Hall With Provision Of Modern Amenities
For Nigeria to meet the current global standards of education, old students’ associations must partner with other stakeholders and play active roles to improve the vital sector.
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa made the observation while commissioning a new dinning hall for Saint Thomas’ Aquinas College in Akure yesterday.
The multi-million naira hall was renovated and supplied with modern amenities by members of 1983-88/89 set of the prestigious college to mark their reunion after 36 years of graduating from the school.
Aiyedatiwa who commended them for returning to their Alma Mater to improve its infrastructural facility, stated that the task of improving the quality of education is the responsibility of all and sundry.
According to him, education remains the bedrock for societal growth and development adding that his administration will continue to accord the sector the priority it deserves to ensure that graduates from the institutions in the state can compete favorably with their peers from across the globe.
To him, the best way to encourage young people to embrace education is to provide attractive, unique and well-equipped facilities for the schools. In addition, he said, his administration will not relent in its efforts to employ more qualified teachers to fill the available vacancies in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the state.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami the Governor disclosed that his administration had recently employed 2,000 teachers after the last recruitment over 10 years ago.
In support of the gesture by the association, Aiyedatiwa promised that his administration will provide a solar powered borehole for the dining hall and urged other graduates of the college to emulate the set.
Earlier in his comment, the Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Jude Ayodeji Arogundade lauded the old students for executing such a gigantic project to their Alma Mater.
In his comment, the President of the set, Comrade Stephen Adedipe confirmed that the project was executed at the cost of #28 million naira adding that the members of the group had been supporting the families of their departed colleagues through different empowerment schemes.
