…As Corps Strengthens Border Patrol, Parades 20 Suspects
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, on Wednesday paraded 20 suspects arrested for various offences across the state, noting a steady decline in criminal activities as multiple security operations intensify ahead of the Yuletide.
Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye made this disclosure during a parade of suspects at the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka Akure Ondo state capital saying “the arrests were made through ongoing initiatives including Operation Le Won Jade, 24-hour border patrols and Ember Month operations, which have significantly bolstered the state’s security architecture.
Among those paraded were eight men arrested on motorbikes in a forested blackspot in Akure North, an area recently combed following a kidnapping incident. The suspects, who claimed to have journeyed from the far north, were unable to provide credible explanations for their presence in the area.
Two additional suspects were apprehended near a kidnap scene in Ekele, Owo Local Government Area, while several others were arrested for offences ranging from attempted murder, rape, armed robbery, theft, and fraud.
A 36-year-old Abdullahi and 20-year-old Mohammed were arrested for alleged kidnapping, while 19-year-old Suleiman was nabbed in Ifira for attempted murder after attacking operatives enforcing the state’s anti-open-grazing law. Two suspects, Aderemi 35 and Esho 25, were arrested for gang rape, while Benjamin 29 and Jerry 33 were accused of stealing building materials from their employer.
Other suspects paraded include Adekunle 45 for fraud; Saliu for theft; Nura and Ladu, aged 31 and 22, for conspiracy and stealing; and Tope, who was caught while stealing bags of rice.
The Commander reassured residents that Amotekun remains committed to ensuring a peaceful festive season. He disclosed that border security has been reinforced at key entry points, including Obu-Ondo, Ajebamidele, Iju-Itaogbolu and Owena, with patrol vehicles operating round the clock.
He urged commuters to call the Corps’ dedicated emergency line 0807 999 989 for rapid response.
On recruitment, he confirmed that 7,000 applicants applied for the 500 positions recently approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Screening has begun, and applicants will proceed to training camps after clearance by relevant security agencies.
He emphasized that although Amotekun is expanding its manpower, the Corps has no plans to take on VVIP protection duties.
