Governor Aiyedatiwa Commends President Tinubu for Appointing Oyedele as Minister
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance.
The Governor gave the commendation in Abuja on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of the new minister.
President Tinubu officially swore in Taiwo Oyedele, the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Finance during a brief ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The oath of office was administered in the President’s office inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
The development comes five days after the Nigerian Senate confirmed Oyedele’s nomination, thereby clearing the way for his appointment into the Federal Executive Council.
Commending the appointment, Governor Aiyedatiwa said:
“Let me first of all thank the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for considering one of the best minds we have, not just in Ondo State but in Nigeria.
He is not new to the task ahead, having previously led about one hundred Nigerians to review the nation’s fiscal and tax regime, which has now been enacted into law.
For him to now be appointed to help drive the implementation of these reforms shows that Mr. President has taken the right step. We thank him for considering this young man, not just because he is from Ondo State, but because he merits the job and truly deserves the appointment.
Although he is not the only one capable of doing the job in Nigeria, we appreciate the President for also considering Ondo State. With this development, Ondo State now has three substantive ministers. We are grateful to Mr. President.”
Taiwo Oyedele is from Ikaram Community, Akoko Northwest LGA of the Northern Senatorial District of Ondo State. He is an economist, accountant and public policy expert.
He attended Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in accountancy and finance, and later attended Oxford Brookes University, where he earned a BSc in applied accounting.
He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
He built his working career at Price WaterhouseCoopers (PwC), joining in 2001 and rising to become the Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
Until his appointment, Oyedele was a lecturer at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting professor at the Lagos Business School.
