FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RESOLVES WELFARE CRISIS WITH LABOUR
…As Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele Assures JNPSNC Workers Would Be Paid Before August 15th
The Honourable Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy Mr Taiwo Oyedele met with the National leadership of Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council JNPSNC on Wednesday 5th August,2026 and resolved the lingering crisis of the welfare of Public Servants.
The meeting personally attended by the Honourable Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy had in attendance the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance Account and Permanent Secretary Ministry of finance (special duties) Chief of Staff to the Honourable Minister, Directors, special advisers and other principal officers of the ministry
On the Labour Side, Comrade kabiru Ado National President MHWUN who also the National Deputy President Nigeria Labour Congress, represented the National Chairman JNPSNC, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, National Secretary JNPSNC and General Secretary NCSU, Comrade Kiyawa, National Assistant Secretary JNPSNC who is also the General Secretary MHWUN, other numerous Labour leaders attended the meeting.
After exhaustive deliberations the meeting resolved that the two months outstanding wage Award will be paid on or before 15th August,2026
Also, on the 40% peculiar allowance, the Minister assured that the Ministry of Finance will work in synergy with the budget office to facilitate supplementary budget that will provide source of funds to pay the 40% peculiar allowance ; which will be budget funded
In the same vein, promotion arrears which has been abandoned for some time now have been revisited; the batches seven and nine have been sorted out for payment.
The Honourable Minister of Finance harped on continuous engagement with labour to fashion out cordial working relationships with Union leaders.
Earlier, Comrade Kabiru Ado who stood in for the National Chairman of JNPSNC Comrade Benjamin Anto Uyanto mni reassured the Minister of the readiness of JNPSNC to ensure workers welfare are not subjugated .
In his remark, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, the National Secretary JNPSNC opined that , the action of the National leadership of JNPSNC was to prevent National embarrassment to the Federal Government because workers were ready to occupy the Office of the Honourable Minister spontaneously.
He admonished government officials and agencies of government to always implement decisions and promises to workers without any collapse in communication channels to avoid insinuations.
He declaratively stated that the inability of the Honourable Minister of Finance office to respond to our various correspondences led to the ultimatum issued to the Honourable Minister’s office.
In an interview with our correspondent, the National Secretary JNPSNC, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga disclosed that with the successful meeting with the Honourable Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy Mr Taiwo Oyedele, the ultimatum of August 11th issued abinitio has been suspended.
Comrade Olowoyo further stated that, the leadership of JNPSNC, Trade Union Side, will monitor the implementation of our resolutions at the meeting, any iota of failed implementation, workers will not hesitate to picket the Office of the Honourable Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy without any ultimatum
