NASRDA BOSS MATTHEW ADEPOJU MARKS CAREER MILESTONE, BAGS PROFESSORSHIP
In recognition of his academic excellence and visionary leadership, the Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju, has been formally conferred with Professor in Geoinformatics and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Applications by the African University of Science and Technology (AUST).
In a statement by Director, Media and Corporate Communications of NASRDA,Dr Felix Ale, the letter of professorship was presented to him by the President of the African University of Science and Technology, Professor Azikiwe Onwualu, at the campus of the institution in Abuja.
The conferment recognizes Adepoju’s contribution in the field of geoinformatics and GIS and reflects his commitment to advancing science, technology and innovation in Nigeria and Africa.
Delivering his acceptance speech, Professor Adepoju expressed appreciation to the management and Governing Board of AUST for their support and mentorship, stating that the rigorous vetting process leading to the conferment adds credibility and integrity to the academic title.

He also highlighted the importance of mentorship programmes, saying they give young professionals opportunities to gain international exposure, build networks and bring home knowledge that can support the growth of science and technology in Nigeria.
Describing the milestone as a journey of a lifetime, the NASRDA boss thanked his family for their constant support, which kept him grounded and focused throughout his career, dedicating the achievement to their lifelong support and sacrifices.
Professor Adepoju reaffirmed his commitment to guiding, lecturing and mentoring students of the institution, as well as supervising their academic work and serving as a good ambassador of the university.
The President of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Professor Azikiwe Onwualu had earlier commended Professor Adepoju for his contributions over the years, particularly his efforts in training young Africans in GIS, adding that Professor Adepoju was one of two candidates who received positive outcomes in the professorial assessment as an alumnus of the university.
He further explained that the university runs programmes in collaboration with the Agency as part of its space programme and expressed confidence in the continued partnership between both institutions to strengthen capacity building and advance space science and technology in Nigeria.
The conferment marks another significant milestone in Professor Adepoju’s career, reflecting his years of dedication to academia, capacity building and the development of Space Science and Technology in Nigeria.
Following the conferment, Professor Adepoju celebrated the significant milestone with family, friends, close associates and top management staff of NASRDA, providing an opportunity for them to share the joy of the moment with the new Professor of Geoinformatics and Geographic Information Systems(GIS) Applications.
