The indigenes of Ado local government area of Benue State under the umbrella of Concerned Ado Elites in Lagos State has called for the suspension of the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mrs Lami Danladi Ogenyi over her alleged involvement in criminal activities in the local government.
The group also called on the Benue State House of Assembly to immediately begin a probe into her act of misleading the House, the State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and the general public over the security situation in the local government.
The advocacy group made this call during a Press Conference tagged: “Many Lies and Atrocities of Benue Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Lami Danladi Ogenyi “. The text of the press conference was read to journalists by the national president of the group, Mr. John Onazi.
According to the group, Mrs Danladi has allegedly used her position to mislead the House of Assembly as well as the Nigeria Police Force in her quest to implicate the executive chairman of the local government, Mr. Oche Sunday Oche.
The group recalled how the deputy speaker has written frivolous petitions to the leadership of the House of Assembly and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun with a claim that the council chairman was involved in the criminal activities going on in the local government.
The group also recalled that the deputy speaker in her petitions, accused Mr. Oche of operating an illegal detention cell in Obioye area of the local government where he used to keep kidnapped victims and torture them until their ransoms were paid by their families.
Also, Mrs Danladi was alleged of using her office to mislead the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as well as the House of Assembly that the council chairman was involved in fraudulent activities in the local government.
During the press conference, the group stated that the IGP through the Area Commander in Otukpa, ACP Cosmas Eze who on October 1, 2025 issued an official Police Report that the allegations in the deputy speaker’s petition were false as no prime facie evidence was adduced against the chairman.
The group wants the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Berger Alfred to investigate the motives behind his deputy’s frivolous petitions to the House, Police and the anti graft agencies which it said are embarrassing the Governor Hyacinth Alia-led administration.
The group recalled how the deputy speaker allegedly ordered thugs some months ago to attack the convoy of the Ado local government chairman in Makurdi where several people who are his supporters were severely injured but hurriedly rushed to the House to lie against the chairman that he was the one that attacked her convoy publicly.
The group recalled also how it was with the intervention of a ranking member of the House of Assembly, Mr. Saater Tseer who gave an account of what actually happened between the deputy speaker and Hon. Oche’s convoy as he was a witness to the incidents that saved the council chairman from being sanctioned by the leadership of the House.
“This however led to an accusation by the deputy speaker that Hon. Tiseer was having an affairs with one Mrs Elizabeth Agbese who is one of the leaders of the All Progressive Congress in Igumale area of Ado Local Government.
The allegation has since led to the divorce of Hon. Elizabeth Egurube with the husband, and she has since abandoned the ruling party and relocated to Abuja. That’s how the honourable speaker destroyed the innocent woman’s home.
The group recalled how the former speaker, Mr. Dajoh Aondoana invited a meeting that was cancelled under the relief of the Governor with her thugs and beat up Hon. Ladi Ochai to stupor. It took the timely intervention of the local government chairman, Engr sunny oche for the the lady to have survived the attack.
The group also wants the Benue State House of Assembly to investigate an allegation by the Benue Anti- Corruption Watch that the deputy speaker allegedly directed two previous caretaker chairmen of the local government, Mr. Charles Onazi Agbese and Mrs Gloria Enotse Ogebe to be collecting the local government’s revenue to a private bank account for two years. “This explains why it was only N1.6million that was remitted as the internally generated revenues of the council for the two years” the group added..
According to the group, the House of Assembly will be able to trace the revenue frauds which done by the deputy speaker for two years of they cross check all the financial records at the Office of the Council’s head of revenue, Mr. Usman Hamidu who is ready to cooperate if invited for questioning.
The Concerned Ado Elites stressed further in the press conference that the Benue State Government should investigate another allegation by the Ado Rebirth Movement where Mrs Danladi was accused of fighting her local government chairman, Mr. Oche because of his loyalty to Governor Hyacinth Alia and also because of his refusal to share the local government revenues with her as it was done by the chairman’s predecessors, Mr. Charles Onazi Agbese and Mrs Gloria Enotse Ogebe who were paying over half of their revenues to a private bank account given them by the deputy speaker.
“It is on record that the executive chairman has generated over N8million Naira few months in his administration” the group added.
Speaking further, group called on the Benue State House of Assembly as well as the Benue State Government to investigate why the deputy speaker has been sponsoring court cases both criminal and civil against the council chairman just to mislead the public..
According to the group, a Forgery case against Mr. Oche Sunday which a Dutse Magistrate Court recently quashed was sponsored by the deputy speaker as part of her numerous fight against the chairman.
The group however wants the deputy speaker to be made to face a penalty for all her crimes especially the ones she committed by dishing out false information about her council chairman in order to mislead the public, Benue Assembly, Benue State Government and the Nigeria Police Force.
“In Nigeria, spreading false information can attract serious penalties under the Cybercrimes Act 2015. If you’re found guilty, you could face a fine of up to ₦7 million or imprisonment for up to 3 years, or both. The deputy speaker has been involving herself in this so we are calling for her sanction by the leadership of the State House of Assembly ” the group noted.
The group also called on the Benue State Government to investigate an allegation by the Benue Intelligence Watch where the deputy speaker was accused of financing militia which she intends to use to fight her perceived political enemies in the 2027 elections in Ado Local Government.
The text of the press conference reads in parts: “The Benue Intelligence Watch has few months ago accused Mrs Lami Danladi Ogenyi of acts that tend to threaten the security and safety of the people in Ado Local Government area of the State but up till now , nothing has been done to put her under caution.
“Two leaders of the militia, Adai Unogwu and Magaji Samson were the ones helping Mrs Lami Danladi and her associate, Nkechi Okafor to collect frequent donations from elders of Ezza for the procurement of arms and ammunition which they had used to fight the people of Effium for years before the current chairman of the local government, Mr. Oche Sunday Oche assumed duties and stopped the age-long war between both communities.
“The deputy speaker recently gave Unogwu and Magaji N2 million to discredit the findings of the Special Team of the IGP led by CSP Mannase Orhena, the O/C Crimes of the AIG Zone 4 in Makurdi”
Furthermore, the Convener Ado Elites urged the state government to also investigate a recent allegation in the media where Mrs Lami Danladi Ogenyi was accused of using her position to illegally secure the release of some suspects that were arrested for procuring AK-47 rifles for her husband, Sunday Attah in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa state.
“The media report states that the incident which happened in June, 2025 was swept under the carpet by the investigating police team as a result of the financial inducement they received from the deputy speaker” the group noted.
“It is on record that the deputy speaker’s husband has age long criminal and highly questionable character.
Infact, he has been a guest of the kuje correctional centre before the deputy speaker out of the desperation to secure fraudulently sort his release” the group stated further.
The group recalled that the deputy speaker also petitioned the chairman to ICPC requesting that the bureau for local government, a government organ be investigated in her bid to implicate the Ado LGA chairman.
As a result of the petition and her many lies, the government of Governor Hyacinth Alia has been brought to disrepute and public obrobrium.
Finally, the group urged the House of Assembly to investigate an alleged diversion of N5million which was donated by a good Samaritan for the renovation of the dilapidated structures of the Government Secondary school in Aga, Ado local government by the deputy speaker.
