
AIYEDATIWA FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF OVER THREE MILLION INSECTICIDE-TREATED NETS
…As Ondo Partners Malaria Consortium, National Malaria Elimination Programme to Fight Disease
The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has assured that his administration will continue to prioritise the health of the people with provision of facilities and personnel across the state.
The Governor who spoke at the flag-off of distribution of long-lasting insecticide treated nets to every household in the state said his administration is determined to partner all relevant agencies and stakeholders towards ensuring the well-being of the people.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, the Governor said his administration has recorded some milestones in the health sector.
In his words, “these, among
several other health projects, include:
expanded access to primary healthcare through the revitalization of over 100 health facilities across the State;
approval of the upgrading of our secondary health facilities across the State;
strengthening our maternal and child health care programmes through the innovative Abiyamo Scheme, ensuring that pregnant women and children receive free essential care;
expanding the State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme to now include the informal sector as well as special groups like the Sickle Cell champions, thereby bringing financial protection to thousands of households”.
Aiyedatiwa also assured of strengthening the State Emergency Medical Service with the acquisition of ambulances while
a new Central Medical Store of pharma-grade
standard for efficient storage and logistics of drugs and other health commodities in the State has been commissioned.
“The continuous recruitment of health professionals to strengthen the State health workforce and
support for malaria prevention and treatment programmes, including free testing and distribution of medicines in our hospitals”.
He emphasized that measures are also being taken to intensify efforts at fighting malaria which he said has been a major challenge for the people.
“Our administration is determined not to stand aloof while our future leaders are endangered by mosquito bites”.
“We acknowledge with conviction that the distribution of Long- Lasting Insecticide-treated Nets will bring protection right into the homes of our people”.
“When properly used, these nets can reduce malaria prevalence significantly”.
“We have a collective vision to ensure that every household in Ondo State owns and consistently uses these nets”.
Aiyedatiwa urged traditional authorities, community and religious leader as well as other stakeholders to enlighten the people to make judicious use of the insecticide-treated nets.
“Traditional and religious leaders as well as the entire populace for their unwavering commitment to our vision”.
“This collaboration shows that when the government, partners and the people work together, progress is assured”, Aiyedatiwa added.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka said the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has continued to justify the confidence reposed in him in the health sector.
In his remarks, Dr. Nnnena Ogbulafor , the National Coordinator of National Malaria Elimination Programme urged prioritisation of innovations to eliminate Malaria.
He said the programme has continued to partner all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the target is achieved.
Similarly, the Country Director of Malaria Consortium, Dr. Kolawole Maxwell who urged residents to make judicious use of the treated nets.
Over three million insecticide-treated nets are to be distributed across all households in the three senatorial districts of Ondo State.
