
AIYEDATIWA REITERATES COMMITMENT TO WOMEN, GIRL-CHILD WELLBEING

The Ondo State Governor, Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa has again reiterated the commitment of his administration to the
well-being of every child in the State, especially the girl- child.
This is by ensuring safe environment and safe communities to eradicate completely the menace of Gender- Based Violence.
The Governor who was speaking at the 2024 ”Pick Up Your Pieces Conference
organised by Girls and Women Network International on the theme: “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Domestic Violence Against Women; The Effects and the Way Forward”.
Governor Aiyedatiwa who was represented by his Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Dr(Mrs) Seun Osamaye assured that structures and processes are being put in place to ensure that women and the girl-child are carried along in the various policies designed to improve their well-being.
Aiyedatiwa therefore urged them to keep making themselves available for the opportunities being created by government.
The O’Datiwa Women Initiatives goodwill message delivered by the Coordinator, Dr. Osamaye there was emphasis on the need to be self- reliant. as women.
In her words, “We must find something doing to make us independent and economically viable no matter how small.”
She admonished domestic violence victims to speak out and seek help by reaching out to different agencies created by governments to put an end to the menance of Gender- Based Violence in the state.
“We further commend the roles of Non-governmental Organizations in collaborating with government to eradicate GENDER- BASED VIOLENCE in our dear Sunshine State.”
The event ended with a robust engagement on how all stakeholders in the community can take active roles in combating gender- based violence.
The following recommendations were made for the attention of the governor.
Creation of special courts, Creation of sexual offenders register, Creation of shelters for SGBV victims, Earmark a month in the year for SGBV Awareness in Ondo state, State police special response team to cater for urgent need of SGBV victims.
